๐ŸŽถWe are back๐ŸŽต.

Myself and Angus McChanter have been around all the schools, and we've got lessons back in full swing. It was great to see new faces along with last year's students.

A big thank you to Frazer Warnock for getting all the players kitted out with their new chanters.

I still have room for a school in the mid ulster area. If any school is interested, please get in touch.

After a few months of hard work from all the kids, it is now the summer holidays. We can not wait to see you all again in September.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone and all the schools. I've only been up and going for a few months, and I've been in 8 schools and taught over 60 kids (which is amazing).

We cannot wait to get back into more school schools and see new faces next year.

Have a lovely summer holiday ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ–

Classes were filled with smiles and laughter today ๐ŸŽถ

It's a fun way to see where everyone is at after my first successful school year. Hopefully, I will get to play a few more of these games before the summer holidays. (Bagpipe Jenga)

What else would you be doing on a Saturday afternoon than sitting on the sofa watching some Netflix and working on your cartoon. This is bagpiping highland bull that's going to help me teach the kids about the highland bagpipes.

To carry on my series of why bagpipes are a great musical instrument to play, I am going to talk about the mental health side. With stressful lifes now a days it is important to make time to destress and relax. Bagpipes are known to be a very big stress release.

Most people who play bagpipes find it a great way to wind down after a hard working day at school or our jobs. It gives us an opportunity to disconnect from our everyday stresses and focus on something that we all enjoy. Rhythmical breathing can also give us a calming effect (like the effect of meditation).

Not only is it good for our physical health but our mental health as well.

To continue this series of the benefits of bagpipes, we are going to talk about coordination.

Bagpipes need very good hand coordination, especially for the finger work. They need to be able to skillfully move their fingers quickly and correctly, being strict, we dont false finger (wrong fingers on or off the chanter). On top of that, we also have to synchronise our breathing and arm. We have to make sure there is consistent pressure on the bag by either blowing into the bag or squeezing the bag while taking a breath. If we don't have the same pressure, we will cut out.

Having to practice this every time we play our instrument this helps us with our coordination and even multitasking.

One of the most popular questions I have been asked is why do I play bagpipes. Not only are bagpipes enjoyable, but they also give us a range of benefits both physically and mentally. So I thought I'd share the benefits of playing bagpipes once a week. The first one is the most obvious is lungs. Bagpipes like any other woodwind instrument can help regulate breathing and build your lung capacity. Therefore, it can help with breathing difficulties.

King Charles III has even set up a charity called Piping in Health, to teach bagpipes in bids to improve lung conditions such as moderate chronic obstruction pulmonary disease.

Hello everyone. What a better way of seeing what all the fuse is about bagpipes than watching it on TV. Tune in on Wednesday 31st January at 10.40pm. You can see my story and how bagpipes helped me achieve more than I thought possible and even get to see me teaching for a few seconds. If you can't get to see it tomorrow, you can find it on BBC iplayer.

Hello everyone. Here's a wee get to know me.

My name is Margaret Hill, and I have recently started teaching in schools around Mid Ulster as a bagpipe instructor. I started playing the bagpipes at the age of 7 with the support of my parents and uncle. They sent me to a local pipe band where I progressed and started competing at the age of 13. The band has had a few successful years, including winning the grade 3b World Championships 2019 and grade 3a World championships 2023. I then started to do solo competitions in 2016 to help improve my playing. I have been teaching bagpipes to beginneres in my band for a few years and was able to get my first job as a bagpipe instructor last year with Bready and District Ulster Scots Development Association, which has given me a great deal of experience in teaching. I have completed my child care level 3, which has also given me the tools to work with kids.

If you would like me to come to your school and bring some Ulster Scots tradition and the sound of bagpipes, email or send me a message.
