The emotion in his voice and face says it all. He talks of an “uninclusive education system”, he’s right. Everyone doing their absolute best but in a system designed by politicians for media sound bites. When do we get an education system based on children and learning.

Time is such a hard concept for some. We really break it down and start with understanding digital time fully before introducing the round, analogue clock. This is the opposite of the way the National Curriculum says it should be covered, but over the years, I’ve found it works so much better and stops the confusion.

YES! Music does shape and develop your brain; it does have links to Maths, Science, Language; it does develop communication, listening skills co-operation and a million and one other social skills. But more than that, teacher music for music’s sake. As an adult, I think all my most enjoyable activities from dancing, guitar playing, choir singing to going to concerts have all been about music. This holiday, put some music on and dance around the kitchen with your child!

A new young student is good at adding numbers using his fingers but I want to move him on. We spent some time looking at number bonds to make 10. Guessing how many glass hearts are under my hand, simple card matching & guessing which card is underneath.
