⚓ IMPORTANT STCW PSSR TRAINING UPDATE
The MCA has published MGN 718 (M+F) – 2026 IMO Amendment to PSSR, introducing an important change to STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) training.
The amendment introduces additional training covering the prevention of and response to violence and harassment at sea, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault.
📅 What does this mean for seafarers?
❌ PSSR completed BEFORE 1 January 2026
Additional training is now required.
✅ MCA-approved PSSR completed ON or AFTER 1 January 2026
No additional module is required.
The MCA has arranged a FREE online training module through OneOcean – Module 0900: “Prevention and Response to Violence & Harassment.”
The course takes approximately one hour, can be completed online or via mobile, and has no final assessment.
🏫 Training Centres
MCA-approved PSSR training providers should also ensure their courses incorporate the revised requirements of STCW Code Table A-VI/1-4. The MCA has advised that compliance will form part of its existing auditing and inspection regime.
This is an important change for both seafarers and maritime training providers, particularly as previous MCA guidance had indicated that existing PSSR holders would not require additional training.
