To every parent opening a GCSE mock result or end of year report this week: breathe. 💛

I know how loaded this moment is; I've spent over 20 years as an English teacher. Right now, I'm also a mum, watching my own child edge towards exams that are less than a year away.

Whatever result walked through your door, I know that you've felt one of these today: relief, shock, pride, worry, or a hundred questions with no obvious answers.

Do we get a tutor? Talk to school? Push harder? Step back?

For most of us, this is the first real glimpse of how our children are actually progressing.

Here's the reassuring bit: a mock result is information, not a verdict. You don't have to have it all figured out tonight. You just need one small step in the right direction. The first move isn't to fix; it’s to understand.
