And it's a wrap. Educate 'em has finished another academic year and is closing for three weeks from now until August 17th. No messages will be replied to in this time but I will endeavour to answer all emails as quickly as possible on my return. I'd like to thank the inspirational students I am lucky enough to work with everyday, the fantastic families, and the education professionals who continue to support our venture. Wishing all GCSE and A-Level students the success they deserve in their August results. Happy summer everyone!

It's the start of the Summer holidays...phew. But at some point, when it's an "I'm bored" day, this is Well Worth Watching. The Theory of Everything is a beautiful depiction of a life hard, but brilliantly, lived. For those needing to start writing university applications for, for example, Medicine, "This Is Going To Hurt" is wonderful and should be read, or watched, but for a more unique discussion point try Aspirin: Story of a Wonder Drug. Ancient (by current sixth former terms!) but very relevant and a comprehensive deep dive into a good mixture of science and history, which often go hand-in-hand. Finally, for those more mathematically inclined, do read Fermat's Last Theorem. Where determination and tenacity, and a passion for Maths wins the day. Enjoy the sunshine!

“Look at the differences between a typical preschool child’s hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isn’t able to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Play dough, coloring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc.
All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready.” ❤️

Educate 'em! will be closed from Saturday 20th December at 1 pm until Monday 5th January 2026 at 9 am. Any messages will be responded to on the 5th as swiftly as possible. I would like the opportunity to say a huge well done to all of my students for their hard work this year, and their successes. Also, to the fantastic families and people in education I work with to support our young people, thank you. Always a pleasure. A special thank you too to the clever, creative, and inspiring Year 7 student who made me this Christmas card following our work on cells. It seemed like a very fitting image to celebrate the end of a successful year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas Crystals ❄️! Ever wondered how rock salt gets turned into pure salt for our tables? This half term, Key Stage 3 students have been using key techniques, and their knowledge of solubility, to separate the salt from the rock. Table salt (sodium chloride) forms cubed shaped crystals and this is indeed what we ended up with after our week-long experiments 😃
