🏆 WE WON!!! GARDENA ‘TOP OF THE PLOTS’ NATIONAL WINNERS! 🏆

🌱 We've been keeping a BIG secret… and we can finally share it!

🌟 Trawden Forest Primary School Gardening Club has WON the ‘Kids on the Plot’ category in GARDENA's national Top of the Plots 2026 competition!

🤩 On Tuesday, we had the incredible honour of welcoming Huw Richards, bestselling gardening author, grow-your-own expert and Head Judge, alongside the GARDENA team, to our school garden!

🌱 They met our young gardeners, explored our growing spaces and saw everything our children have achieved.

🏆 Then came the unforgettable announcement… WE WERE THE 2026 NATIONAL WINNERS!

💚 This award means so much because our garden is about far more than growing plants. Our children sow seeds, nurture seedlings, compost, harvest vegetables, care for wildlife and even see their produce used in our school kitchen!

🌿 Since January 2024, our garden has grown from a few pallet planters into a thriving space filled with polytunnels, raised beds, fruit, vegetables, flowers and wildlife habitats.

💚 But the most important thing growing in our garden has always been our children.

🌱 We've watched them become confident, knowledgeable and enthusiastic young gardeners who care for nature, solve problems and take pride in growing their own food.

🌟 To have their hard work recognised nationally by GARDENA and Huw Richards is incredibly special. This award belongs to every child who has helped our garden grow!

💚 A HUGE thank you to Huw Richards and the GARDENA team for such an unforgettable visit, and to the wonderful families, businesses and members of our community who have supported us along the way. We couldn't have done it without you!

🌱 When we planted those first seeds, we never imagined where they might take us…

🏆 Apparently… all the way to the TOP OF THE PLOTS! 🏆

📮 Year 2’s Jolly Postman Adventure!

Year 2 have made a fantastic start to their new English topic based on The Jolly Postman. They have been busy investigating clues, making predictions, mapping the story and retelling key events together.

We cannot wait to see the children’s own creative additions to the story over the coming lessons! 📖✨

🌟 All About Me – Shared Drawing Session 🌟
Today, our children enjoyed a fantastic shared drawing session as part of our ‘All About Me’ topic! 🏡✏️
We started by talking about our homes and the people who live with us before creating some wonderful drawings together. The children showed great creativity and used lots of mathematical language, spotting and discussing shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, rectangles and ovals within their pictures. 🔺⬜⚪
We also explored the world around our homes, with children identifying features such as roads, trees, grass, parks and lamp posts. It was lovely to hear them sharing their ideas, making connections to their own experiences and learning from one another. 🌳🚦🌞
A brilliant session that combined communication and language, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. Well done, everyone! ⭐👏

🎃 Pumpkin Harvest Time for our Reception Garden Gang! 🎃
😊 Our little red wheelbarrow was back in action this week as a group of our Reception Garden Gang children headed up to the school garden with Mrs Nelson for a very exciting autumn job - pumpkin harvesting!
🔍 The children had great fun exploring the garden and discovering what had been growing, before heading into the polytunnel to find our pumpkins ready to harvest. They did a fantastic job picking them and loading their harvest into the little red wheelbarrow. 🎃 And we’re not finished yet - we still have another couple of vines full of little pumpkins waiting to be harvested!
🌱 Some of our pumpkins have an extra-special story behind them. Once again, they have been grown from seed that we saved ourselves, continuing the story that began with ‘Jack’, the pumpkin from our Pumpkin Jack story and decomposition experiment.
🎃 The children counted their harvest and, of course, chose one very important pumpkin to become our new ‘Jack’. He will begin the pumpkin lifecycle all over again as the children watch what happens to him over the coming months.
🍂 Some of our beautiful school-grown pumpkins and squashes have now made their way to the school library, where they are part of our autumn harvest display, and one will soon be transformed into some delicious pumpkin hummus for the children to taste!
🪴 From planting seeds to harvesting a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins, there has been so much learning along the way - and plenty of autumn fun too!

🎃🌽 Weird, Wonderful and School Grown! 🌽🎃
There was plenty to keep our Gardening Club busy last week, with some wonderfully unusual harvests, more seeds to sow and hot buttered sweetcorn to enjoy outdoors!
🎃 The children harvested a colourful collection of weird and wonderful squash, along with a batch of pumpkins. With so many different shapes and sizes, they made quite a display! We also checked in on our tromboncinos to see how they were getting on.
🌱 Another batch of microgreens was sown, ready for more taste testing in the school yard. These little crops are a lovely way for children across school to try something we’ve grown.
🌽 Our sweetcorn went from plot to plate! The children harvested the cobs and peeled back the husks before we cooked them outdoors and enjoyed hot buttered sweetcorn together. They also took a section home to enjoy with their families.
🫘 We picked more runner beans and gave the bed a tidy, helping to care for our growing space as the seasons change.
📖 There was time to browse the seed catalogue too, with each child choosing a variety they would like to grow. Choosing seeds is an exciting part of gardening, and it was lovely to see their interest in what we could grow next!
💚 A busy session full of harvesting, tasting and planning - with plenty still to look forward to in our school garden!

🌟💛 What a fabulous Grandparents' Afternoon we've had! 💛🌟
We were delighted to welcome so many grandparents into school today as part of our Grandparents' Day celebrations. The response was amazing, and it was wonderful to share our school with so many special family members. 👵
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with visitors commenting on our lovely school... even if there were lots of steps to climb! 😊
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the event so special. Creating opportunities to involve our wider school family is incredibly important to us, and today was a wonderful reminder of the valuable role grandparents play in our children's lives. 💚

🌿🗺️ Year 2 Explore Trawden! 🗺️🌿
Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic fieldwork walk around Trawden, exploring human and physical features in our local area. Along the way, they practised their Geography and English skills, spotted local landmarks, and even took inspiration from St Mary's Church for their Lowry art project. 🎨⛪
A brilliant morning of learning in our local community! 🌟💚
