Our regular sewing classes include short weekend half day sewing classes and sewing courses with weekly sewing classes at 3 different skill levels.

This course will cover:
Workshop Safety
Setting up the machine
Troubleshooting machine tension
Sewing
Sewing seams
Hems
Topstitching
Using scissors, pins, chalk
Sewing around shaped pieces (make a cloth wallet)
How to press not iron
Have a go at overlocking
Introduction to patterns and pattern markings
Laying Up and cutting out

Make your own final piece...choice of Pyjama Shorts /trousers in your usual size (Adult Male, Female and children's patterns available), Apron, Cushion, Tote Bag.

All materials and equipment are supplied. You may find it useful to bring a notebook and pen to jot down ideas and make notes.

Morning and afternoon refreshments are provided. Lunch is not provided. As we are in the town centre, most people go to one of our many local cafes - just like the Sewing Bee!! Could we ask you let us know in advance if you have any dietary particulars.

Yesterday evening I was invited to Ballintoy for a private viewing of the collection
One word..exquisite!
Not only are these garments beautifully cut, you just want to hold the fabrics next to your skin. Japanese cotton shirts, light as air.
Clever, beautful items. My favourite...the Spencer jacket.

Congratulations to our latest 3 Beginner groups. Your creations are just beautiful and I hope you are proudly using, wearing and displaying them!

On a Thursday, I'm usually teaching in Belfast, but that's finished for the summer, so I'm having a me-day, cutting myself some new trousers from our own Level 2 pattern.

Reminded me, I should remind you that our lovely relaxed day of social sewing is this Saturday 13th June !!

Our Pattern Cutting Courses have begun!

The sustainable way to make garments that fit you every time.

🙄🤦 FORGET adjusting EVERY pattern you buy!🤦 🙄

We do things differently (and kinda always have...) ✂️

FIRST....we'll teach you lots of Pattern Cutting tools and techniques.
You will learn how to:
Adjust darts
Add fullness / Remove fullness
Create panel seams
Cut sleeves
Cut collars and facings
Create openings.
You will mock up (toile) these techniques and see them on your body stand.

THEN...you will make up your own personal calico body toile and we will fit and adjust your base body Block Pattern together.

FINALLY...you will design and cut your own first pattern using your own personal block and using the techniques learned.

IN THIS WAY....you will KNOW that every pattern you create will fit you and your body perfectly, EVERY time. This will be your starting pattern for every top, jacket dress pattern in your future.

Diane is a professional Creative Pattern Cutter still working in the Fashion and Costume for 30+ years who has set up SewingNi to pass on her knowledge and skills to promote individuality and sustainability in design. Level 2 is the next step after the Beginners sewing Course and covers garment making skills...zips, pockets, gathers, pleats.

The final make - your choice of garment make in your own size using our SewingNi original patterns - our pull on trouser with side pockets is the most popular!
