NEW EXHIBITION OPENS TOMORROW AT ENNISKILLEN CASTLE
For over a decade, conservators have worked painstakingly to preserve some of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries ever made in Fermanagh.
Now, many of those extraordinary artefacts are finally stable enough to go on display.
Living at Drumclay: A Glimpse of Life on a Fermanagh Crannog tells the story of the people who lived on Drumclay Crannog, a lakeside settlement near Enniskillen occupied from the early 9th century, with activity continuing for centuries afterwards.
Discovered during the major Drumclay excavation in 2012, the finds transformed our understanding of life in Medieval Fermanagh and Medieval Ireland. Rare objects preserved in the wet ground include a beautifully crafted wooden cheese press, a gaming board, jewellery, shoes, combs and many other everyday items that offer an intimate glimpse into the lives of the families who once called the crannog home.
These are objects that survived hundreds of years beneath the earth and, after more than a decade of conservation and care, visitors now have the opportunity to see them for themselves.
Join us and discover one of the most important archaeological stories ever uncovered in Fermanagh.
