What a busy first day back to school. It was amazing to welcome all our children back into our wee family. We had 100% attendance on our first day - WOW!

We had a some news regarding Integration that we were not expecting today but Killowen, being Killowen, will keep strong and continue on this journey that we started a few years ago. The Minister of Education has not approved our proposal for Integrated status.

While we are deeply disappointed that the voices of our children, parents, governors, staff, and wider community have not led to the outcome we had hoped for, we remain incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, effort, and passion
throughout this process.

Despite this setback, we are proud of the strong, united community we have built and the clear commitment shown towards Integration. The Minister’s decision does not change our determination — we will continue to progress our transformation plans, working closely together to realise this vision and ensure a bright, inclusive future for all our children.

Thank you so, so much for all your continued support. It is hugely valued and appreciated.

☀️ Happy Summer Holidays! ☀️

As another wonderful school year draws to a close, we would like to express our sincere thanks to our entire school community. Your kindness, encouragement, generosity and unwavering support throughout the year have meant so much. Together, we have celebrated successes, overcome challenges and created a caring, nurturing environment where our children have flourished!

We are looking forward to welcoming all the children who have signed up for our Kool Kids Summer Scheme, which begins tomorrow. Our team can’t wait to see you from 8.00am, with lots of exciting activities planned every day. The scheme will run to 6.00pm each day and we’re looking forward to a summer full of fun, friendship and laughter!

Have a safe and relaxing summer everyone. We look forward to welcoming you all back in September, refreshed and ready for another exciting year of learning!

We say a very special thank you to an incredible member of the Killowen Primary School family.

After 26 years of dedicated service, our wonderful classroom assistant, Laura Rankin, is retiring. Over the years, she has helped shape the lives of so many children, offering encouragement, patience and a smile that brightened every day.

She has been so much more than a classroom assistant. She has been a friend, a listening ear, a source of comfort, and someone who always put the children first. Her warmth, compassion and dedication have made a lasting difference to our children and indeed colleagues.

We’ve shared so many wonderful memories over the years, along with countless laughs that have made even the busiest days brighter. Those moments of fun and friendship are just some of the reasons she will be so greatly missed.

While it’s hard to imagine Killowen without Laura, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to our school community. Thank you for your 26 years of care, commitment and friendship Laura. We wish you every happiness, good health and many exciting adventures in your retirement.

You’ll always be part of the Killowen Primary School family. Thank you for everything—you’ve made a difference that will never be forgotten. 💙🌟🩵

As our incredible Primary 7 children close the door on their time at Killowen, we want to say how immensely proud we are of each and every one of them. Over the past seven years, they have grown from curious little learners into confident, caring and resilient young people who have embraced every opportunity, supported one another and created memories that will last a lifetime.

They have filled our classrooms with laughter, kindness and determination, and have left their own special mark on our school community. While it is time for them to spread their wings and begin an exciting new chapter, they will always be part of the Killowen family. We wish each of them every success and happiness in the years ahead—we know they have bright futures waiting for them.

🥢🥟 P4 and P5 enjoyed a fantastic Chinese cooking experience with Bonny yesterday! 🇨🇳

The children had the opportunity to watch chicken and sweetcorn soup being made, see how traditional dumplings are carefully prepared, and learn all about the history of dumplings and the person credited with creating them. They also sampled a variety of delicious traditional foods along the way!

It was a fun, engaging and memorable experience that brought learning to life through culture, food and hands-on discovery. A huge thank you to Bonny for such a wonderful experience! 🌟🍜🥟

🎉 What a wonderful way to finish our Churchlands Workshops! 🎉

Last week our Primary 1 children celebrated with their friends from St. John’s Primary School, enjoying lots of fun, laughter and games together in the hall. It was fantastic to see the children working, playing and celebrating alongside one another—and even the parents joined in on the fun too!

A lovely end to a fantastic programme, filled with friendship, teamwork and happy memories. 💙

Last week, our School Council met with David Jackson, Chief Executive of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, to discuss their campaign for a new park in the Coleraine area.

Our pupils have worked hard to promote the need for a fun, safe and inclusive play space for local children and families. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to making a positive difference in our community. 🌟

🐝📚 Spelling Bee Success!📚🐝

Today our pupils put their spelling skills to the test in our annual Spelling Bee Competition! From the opening rounds to the final spellings, the children demonstrated fantastic knowledge, concentration, determination and confidence.

We are incredibly proud of all our contestants who took part and showed great resilience throughout the competition. A special congratulations to our finalists and winners for their outstanding performances! 🏆👏
