Baby-signing & toddler talking classes: helping you communicate with your child using BSL signs (SSE) Signing babies are happy babies!

Giving your little one a means of communicating (other than crying!) before they can talk reduces frustration for both of you as you are able tonunderstand their wants and needs more quickly and clearly. At TinyTalk, all of our sessions are 1 full hour long and follow the same structure every week to help your TinyTalker feel secure and confident to explore and learn.

Our baby classes a'r

e suitable for little ones from birth to around 18-24 months. With your baby, you'll get to:
� learn around 6 useful signs each week, through familiar nursery rhymes and action songs
� experience bright and beautiful sensory toys to develop listening, visual tracking and language skills
� practise all the skills needed for clear speech and communication - giving your baby a way to communicate their thoughts and needs before they can talk.

New families with babies of 12 weeks and under may wish to begin with our Newborn Communication workshop. This nurturing 6 week course is aimed at parents, with activities tailored to your baby's development in those early months. You can expect:
�with a gentle introduction to signing and a focus on communication through the senses.
�spend some quality time with your new baby and learn how you can use their early cues to help you build your bond and both navigate that tricky 4th trimester.
� meet other new parents in a safe, secure environment
(Please note: due to the gentle nature of this class, older siblings are not permitted to attend. You may, of course, bring both along to the baby or toddler sessions instead.)

TinyTalk is for toddlers too! From around 18 months our quality classes continue to develop your child's communication skills whilst you're having a brilliant time together. It's the TinyTalk you love, but more physical and interactive to suit developing minds. Toddlers are not meant to sit still, but they'll love:
� building their speech development, listening, confidence and social skills
� familiar TinyTalk action songs, stories and fun props and sensory toys
� learning a wider range of BSL signs and concepts such as counting, opposites and colours
� playing language games and having fun communicating! In the second half of our sessions, the babies and toddlers have a chance to play and the grown ups can have a chat and make new friends in a safe environment. Drinks and biscuits and included as part of the price abd siblings attend for free!

Just a few of the videos I've received from TinyTalk Colchester families this week alone!

The babies in this video range from 10 to 19 months and I think you will agree that their communication is outstanding. They are truly superstars in letting their grown ups know exactly what they need.

From one of our newest Newborns to one of last wrokshop's graduates:

At just 4 months old, this clever little one is already using the sign for *nappy* to communicate with his mummy! 🥰

Mum had suspected for a little while that he might be signing, but like many parents, she wasn't quite sure whether it was intentional. Then one day he signed *nappy*, she checked him, and sure enough, he needed changing.

But the story gets even better...

After putting on a fresh nappy, Mum left it unfastened for a little bit of nappy-free time. A few moments later, he started signing *nappy* again. 🤔

"That can't be right," Mum thought.

When she checked, she discovered he'd had a little wee, and because the nappy wasn't fastened properly, it had leaked right up his back! 😅

He wasn't just copying a sign — he was using it to tell her something important.

This is one of the reasons I love teaching baby signing. It's not about creating tiny conversationalists overnight; it's about giving babies a way to share their thoughts, needs and experiences before they can speak. Sometimes those messages are simple, sometimes they're surprising, and sometimes they save an outfit change! 💕

Well done, little one — and well done, Mum, for noticing and responding to those early communication attempts. ❤️

The tiniest learners have the busiest jobs! 💕

After their very first TinyTalk Newborn Communication session, this little one was clearly ready for a well-earned nap. 😴

I loved watching those precious moments of connection between our mummies and babies today — investigating faces, focusing intently, tracking movements and even beginning to imitate facial expressions. These early interactions may seem simple, but they are laying the foundations for communication, learning and bonding.

Our newborn sessions are a lovely opportunity to slow down, tune into your baby and learn more about how they communicate from the very beginning. By understanding their cues and responses, parents can feel more confident and connected as they build that special relationship together.

Sweet dreams, little one — you've worked hard today! 🥰

Now I have your attention 😳🫣 here's a reminder that there are NO classes tomorrow. So you can happily enjoy the thought of me enduring, I mean, ENJOYING, another fun makeover like this while my children are off school. (Yes, that is face-paint all over my legs.)
