A day of gratitude and slightly wobbly, contemplative emotions.
At 7pm this evening I earn my "I managed to stay alive for 5 more years" badge.
Has certainly been an eventful 5 years - some fantastic bits and some really horribly challenging bits. Lots of steps forward and some backwards - that's life.
Whatever your challenge - small steps day by day, be kind to yourself and .
My cardiac surgeon is very pleased with the recovery my heart has made. Now just need to heal the long-covid wrecked lungs to get back to hill fitness - oh, and find a job 🤦🏻.
So glad to have model railways, mountains and motorbikes in my life.
Couldn't have done this without Megan , Amelie , family and friends who have been there for me. Thank you 🙏❤️🙏 # # #

From our friends at Koru Kayaking at St Agnes in Cornwall 😊
It’s Koru Kayaking’s 10 year anniversary today! We started with some yellow ocean kayaks, a Landrover called Demelza and the back of a bodyboard to advertise our tours. We’ve seen some incredible wildlife, some wonderful history and geology and worked with some amazing people. Massive thanks to all our customers who shared many wonderful experiences with us and we hope many more! Thanks for kayaking with Koru and here’s to the next 10 years!

Trig pillars will always hold a special place in our hearts but in the modern day we use something a little different to accurately map Great Britain.
The network of over 6,500 trig pillars was first put to use in 1936 when the retriangulation of Britain began. Today we have whittled that mighty network down to a core 12 GeoNet stations that provide the reference frame for all of our mapping. Those key sites are known as “zero-order” stations meaning that they have the highest possible order of accuracy. This is achieved by mounting them onto something we know will not move such a bedrock.
The OS Network has a further 100+ GPS sites that are always on, providing positional accuracy improvements to the changes recorded by our surveyors updating the map - around 20,000 every day, which allow us to map the whole of Great Britain with a degree of accuracy of 1-2cm.
Even though we have given the trigs an upgrade the degree of accuracy achieved in the 1930s was astounding, we now know that their measurements were only around 20m out!
Have you enjoyed learning all about trig pillars this week? Let us know in the comments below!
