Three Essex Rebels Volleyball stars have helped England win silver at the 2026 British Volleyball Federation Invitational Cup.
Huge congratulations to Tara King, Lilla Whittaker and Heidi Bright on an incredible international campaign.
It was a tournament to remember for Tara, who earned her first senior England cap, while Heidi made her senior international debut after representing England at U22 level.
What a way to represent Essex.

University of Essex Director of Journalism Martin Bright has contributed to a major new Reporters Without Borders report warning that national security laws are increasingly being used to silence journalists.
National Security as a Weapon Against Journalism explores how these laws are being used to prosecute, surveil and intimidate journalists – threatening press freedom and the public’s right to reliable information.

East 15 Acting School's Dr Christina Kapadocha has brought together theatre, technology and embodied practice in Mapping Journeys – Grounding Roots, an innovative performance exploring migration, identity, home and belonging.
Performed in London as part of Refugee Week 2026, the immersive experience combined somatic practices, interactive technology and personal stories, including Christina’s own migration story and responses from artists with diverse migration backgrounds.

Essex spin-out Versatile RobotX has secured more than £1m in investment and innovation funding to accelerate the development of its intelligent agricultural robots.
Combining AI, machine vision and advanced robotics, the technology is designed to automate labour-intensive harvesting and crop-handling tasks, helping tackle labour shortages, boost productivity and strengthen food security.
