Who will be our new 'travelling teddy'?

Our travelling teddy will visit each child's home and spend some time playing at their house. We will be using 'The Everywhere Bear' by Julia Donaldson as inspiration for our time with our new Abacus friend.
Who would you choose?

We have an open morning on Friday 30th January 10-11.30am if you'd like to come a meet us and find out a little bit more about us at Abacus Little Learners.

No real snowmen unfortunately today but we still talked about our snow experiences and got to explore the ice that had been waiting for us in the Abacus Little Learners garden.

The children wondered what would melt the ice best...breaking it up, pouring on cold water or pouring on warm water. Science in action!

✨ Calm Focused Learning with Montessori Trays ✨

This year, we will continue our learning by using Montessori inspired work trays. These help to support an understanding of personal space, emotional regulation and develop concentration during independent play.

Each tray provides a clear workspace, helping children learn where their activity begins and ends, while encouraging respect for their own work and the work of others.

Through using the trays, the children are developing:
✨ Awareness of personal space and boundaries
✨ Focus and sustained attention
✨ Independence and self-confidence
✨ Respect and care for resources

These calm, purposeful activities support self-regulation and help children feel secure and confident within the learning environment.

We love seeing the pride children take in completing their work and returning trays independently 💛

Santa’s Workshop in Action! 🎅

Our garden role play was transformed into a festive Santa’s sleigh, where the children immersed themselves in imaginative Christmas play, delivering presents and feeding the reindeer.

The children enjoyed wrapping presents, carefully selecting the correct size box for their 'gifts', then folding and cutting paper and using sticky tape to finish. A wonderful way to strengthen fine motor skills while practicing patience and independence.

Through these playful experiences, the children were developing:
✨ Imagination and storytelling
✨ Fine motor control and coordination
✨ Social skills and cooperation
✨ Confidence and independence

Role play activities like these help children make sense of the world around them, express their ideas and learn through joyful, meaningful play.

Festive Fun & Learning! 🎄

Our preschool has been full of Christmas magic as the children enjoyed a variety of festive learning activities 🎅

The children loved writing and posting Christmas cards within the setting as well as receiving their real Christmas cards through the post, right to their front doors!
The children practised early mark-making and reading, recognising their names and familiar words such as Mummy, Daddy, 'to' and 'love'.

Through these festive experiences, the children were developing:
✨ Early writing and literacy skills
✨ Fine motor control and hand strength
✨ Communication and language
✨ Turn-taking and social skills

These activities support learning about celebrations and traditions while building key skills through play and meaningful experiences.

We love seeing the excitement, focus and festive joy filling our setting at this special time of year ❤️
