Starting Senior School is a big milestone, and at Holmwood House we make sure every pupil begins this exciting next chapter feeling confident, connected and ready to thrive.
Our Year 7 Welcome Camp, the SPARK Expedition, is designed to help pupils settle into Senior School life from the very beginning. Through team challenges, outdoor adventures, bushcraft activities, campfire cooking and an overnight stay on site, pupils build friendships, develop independence and learn to step outside their comfort zone.
From navigation and problem-solving challenges to working together on a budgeting task, pupils develop valuable life skills while creating lasting memories with their new classmates. The SPARK Expedition is just one of the ways we support a smooth transition into Senior School, helping every pupil feel part of the Holmwood community and ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.
Find out more about our approach to Senior School and character education at our Whole School Open Evening on Wednesday 30th September or our Year 7 Experience Evening on Tuesday 3rd November.

At Holmwood, being a family school means creating opportunities for pupils, parents and staff to come together throughout the year.
Our first community event of the new academic year is the Produce Show on 11th September and we hope you are continuing to nurture those sunflowers, fruit and vegetables over the summer!
It's the first of many treasured Holmwood traditions this year, alongside events such as Songfest, the Summer Fete, the school's birthday celebrations and fireworks event. These are all the moments that bring pupils, parents and staff together and strengthens our school community.
These opportunities allow pupils to build confidence beyond the classroom and parents to connect with one another and the school staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone to another fantastic year of Holmwood events.

As we look back over another fantastic year at Holmwood, one of the highlights of school life has been the many opportunities our pupils have had to develop confidence, creativity and communication skills through oracy and the performing arts.
From Reception to Year 6, pupils enjoy weekly drama lessons and take part in productions. This year, our Pre-Prep pupils delighted audiences with two wonderful Christmas shows, Year 6 impressed with their energetic production of Let the Games Begin, and our Year 4 and 5 pupils have worked incredibly hard on Let Loose.
In the Senior School, pupils from Years 7β11 took part in the outstanding production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which was a huge success despite the exceptionally hot weather during performances.
Music has also been a key part of school life, with concerts across the Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior School providing opportunities for pupils to share their talents. Our Year 3 pupils have enjoyed a year of learning either violin or cello in their weekly music lessons, showcasing the skills they have developed in the Summer Concert.
Many pupils have also taken part in LAMDA lessons, achieving excellent results, while regular opportunities to present in lessons, assemblies and Element meetings help pupils find their voice and grow in confidence.
Through performing, presenting and working together, pupils develop important life skills including communication, resilience, teamwork and self-belief, skills that will support them well beyond their time at Holmwood.

Our Year-Round Nursery is still in full swing throughout the summer, with lots of exciting activities taking place at both our Main School site and our Great Horkesley Nursery.
Open for 47 weeks of the year, both sites provide a nurturing, engaging environment for children to learn, play and thrive. Our Catering Manager, James, is in the kitchen every day to ensure the children are supplied with the same high quality home-cooked, healthy and delicious snacks and lunches that our children enjoy all year round.

As we look back on the highlights of last term, one unforgettable experience was our Year 6 Adventure Science trip to Rhoscolyn.
The week was packed with adventure, learning and teamwork, combining exciting physical challenges with opportunities to explore science in the natural environment. From coasteering at Porth Dafarch and climbing on Holyhead Mountain to kayaking, SUP, gorge walking and coastal adventures,, while evening team games on the beach provided plenty of fun and opportunities to strengthen friendships.
The trip perfectly reflects Holmwood's commitment to character education. Throughout the week, our Year 6 pupils demonstrated courage, teamwork and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones, creating memories and skills that will stay with them long after the trip ended.
