Did you know that teaching children to write is a task developed way before a pen goes to paper?

There are lots of ways you can support your little one to get ready for writing and it doesn't involve sitting at a table practising letters over and over. First they need to develop big and small movements. For ideas on how to create simple, fun opportunities for your little one to strengthen and increase control in their movements. Essex SEND Local Offer

SPACE (Supporting Parents and Carers in Essex) support workshops available ⭐

SPACE is part of the Essex SEND Local Offer, providing support from trained Peer Educators with lived experience of raising a child with SEND. We offer parent/carer workshops, online learning opportunities, community events, and a chance to speak with someone who understands.

Early years settings can book one free 90-minute parent/carer workshop until March 2027. We also offer new cluster workshops for groups of schools/settings.

🧸🧺 What a wonderful Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day we’ve had at Dragonfly, Colchester today! 🧺🧸

Our little ones had so much fun bringing along their favourite teddy bears and enjoying a very special picnic together! There has been lots of smiles, laughter and plenty of teddy bear adventures throughout the day. 🐻💕

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea where as you can see our teddy bears all joined in too! 🥰

We hope all the teddy bears enjoyed their visit to nursery too! 🧸

🦖🌋 A roaring good science experiment!🔬✨

Our children had lots of fun exploring a fantastic dinosaur volcano experiment! Using our dinosaurs and volcano, we combined baking powder, lemon juice and vinegar to create an exciting volcanic eruption. 🌋💥

The children watched with fascination as the mixture fizzed and bubbled, creating lots of excitement and opportunities to explore simple science concepts through hands-on play. 🧪

A wonderful activity encouraging curiosity, exploration and learning through play! 🦕✨

🦋🛒 Welcome to Dragonfly Supermarket! 🛒🦋

Our Butterfly Room children have been having a fantastic time exploring our very own Dragonfly Supermarket! 🌟

Through role play, the children have enjoyed becoming shopkeepers, customers and helpers, developing their communication, confidence and social skills while having lots of fun. 🛍️😊

From choosing their shopping to serving customers and paying at the till, there’s been plenty of wonderful imaginative play happening! 💕🦋

We LOVE a homemade playdough recipe!

Playdough is a simple thing to make at home and of course, fun to play with! Writing will be an essential skill learnt at school, so playing with playdough will build up your child’s finger muscles in readiness for holding a pencil.
