Our Year 11 Duke of Edinburgh cohort recently completed their Silver Expedition at Bentley Copse in the Surrey Hills.

Over three days and two nights, students demonstrated excellent resilience, teamwork and determination as they navigated the local area. Despite temperatures reaching 35°C, they remained positive throughout and successfully completed their expedition journeys.

Their perseverance and support for one another made this a memorable and highly successful expedition.

Well done to all involved!

Sports Day 2026 17/07/2026

Our annual Sports Day was a huge success, bringing students together for a day packed with competition, achievement and house pride. With excellent weather and a brilliant atmosphere, students demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day.

We are incredibly grateful to our Year 10 Sports Captains, PE Department and all staff who helped make the day run so smoothly.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see so many students cheering on their peers, representing their houses with pride and embodying our school values.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year's Sports Day such a memorable occasion. We're already looking forward to next year!

A group of Year 9 students recently attended the Active Essex Leadership Training programme at the Northern Gateway, where they developed their communication, teamwork and leadership skills.

In the afternoon, they put their learning into practice by leading activities for one another, demonstrating confidence, organisation and excellent teamwork throughout.

The students represented the school exceptionally well and received outstanding feedback from the training provider, who described them as one of the best cohorts they had worked with.

Their enthusiasm and maturity made the day a great success. Well done to all involved!

As part of our Future Friday careers programme, Year 8, 9 and 10 students recently enjoyed an engaging visit from Tony Cullum at the RAC.

Students gained an insight into the wide range of opportunities available within the automotive industry, including apprenticeships, technical careers and opportunities for progression.

Thank you to Tony and the RAC for inspiring our Gilberdians and helping them explore pathways that could lead to fulfilling and successful careers.

We are proud to have welcomed a wide range of employers to The Gilberd School throughout this academic year. We are always keen to grow our CEIAG community and welcome new employers to work with our students. Please email [email protected] for more information.

Our Year 7-10 Awards Evenings were a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work, achievement and success of our students. It was fantastic to see so many students recognised for their dedication and contribution to The Gilberd Way, and to share these special occasions with their families and teachers.

We were also delighted to welcome back inspiring Gilberd alumni Jacob Aldons, Peter Dutch, Vicki Shreeve and Charlie Wood, who shared their experiences and encouraged our students to aim high.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these evenings so memorable.

Thank you to everybody who supported our recent Uniform Exchange event. It was wonderful to see so many families taking advantage of the opportunity to exchange good-quality pre-loved uniform, helping to save money whilst reducing waste and supporting a more sustainable approach.

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting the re-use of school uniform, we hold Uniform Exchange events regularly throughout the school year.
Please keep an eye on school communications for details of our next event. Information will be shared with families in advance, and we'd love to see as many people as possible take part.

Thank you for helping to make these events such a success!

CCF Summer Camp 2026 provided an excellent opportunity for cadets to develop their leadership, teamwork, and personal resilience through a diverse programme of challenging and rewarding activities.

The cadets created lasting memories with experiences such as firing live ammunition on a range, a competition day, field craft including creating and staying in a harbour area and personal development on the high ropes and kayaking on a lake.

We are proud of everything our cadets achieved during this challenging week away. Well done to all.
