Anglian Flight Centres is a professional, friendly flight school located at Earls Colne Airfield in the heart of the Essex Golf and Country Club, and home to the well respected Essex Air Ambulance. Here at AFC, you will find a warm, welcoming atmosphere at our club house, with plenty of coffee or tea to drink while you chat with other pilots and students about flying experiences. We offer Private Pilot Licence (PPL), and National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) courses as well as ratings for night, advanced PPL, co-pilots course, aerobatics and Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) otherwise known as the IR(R). Having learnt to fly, many of our members have continued training with us to an advanced level, and then gone into the professional world of instructor or airline pilot. You are bound to make new friends whilst learning to fly, and will be able to get together once you have your licence to explore airfields further afield. Norm & Debs Catering are taking a few well earned days off and will not be back until 30th September.

If you are flying into EGSR Earls Colne then we still have Muffins, flapjacks, crisps, chocolate and cold drinks available at reception, or we can make you a cup of tea and coffee.

The outside and inside seating areas are still open in case you want to bring your own picnic………if you do bring a picnic then I am partial to chocolate cake, just saying…..

Next to feature on our meet the Team series is the Head of Training for Anglian Flight Centres, Nigel Willson.

As well as being responsible for our ATO as the Head of Training, Nigel also is our principal examiner and Warbird pilot for our 1942 AT-6 Harvard IIA.

In between flying here at Anglian Flight Centres doing the examinations, Warbird flights, and CBIR training he also created the very intuitive Easy PPL system which offers online ground school for flight training both before and after getting your licence.

I am sure you have all noticed how the price of fuel just keeps going up. Whether this be due to conflict around the world or perish the thought oil companies capitalising on the situation, the price we pay for AVGAS just keeps going up.

I have recently discussed this with my equally frustrated AVGAS suppliers, and they cited issues with OPEC being slow to increase production in some countries, South American oil fields reaching yearly production limits, and of course the fisticuffs in the middle east. Also, at present there is a worldwide high demand for AVGAS holding the price high which will naturally drop away as Autumn and Winter come around to the northern hemisphere.

In between time until the world order is restored, all we can do as airfields is try and help ease the pain to the end user. If you look around there still quite a few of us airfields making the effort to keep the prices low. Always worth phoning an airfield you are going to visit to get their current up to date prices.

Earls Colne Airfield currently has a price per litre of ÂŁ2.00 for 100LL AVGAS and is one of the cheapest airfields in the UK for AVGAS.
We also offer discounted landing fees if a visiting pilot takes over 50 litres, and a loyalty card where you can collect stamps to ultimately get a 5p reduction in the per litre fuel price.

We are not the cheapest airfield in the UK, but we are certainly the cheapest airfield in Earls Colne and monitor our prices weekly as and when we re-stock 😊

This week on our meet the team series we introduce Victoria who is currently our longest serving member of staff having notched up 28yrs.

Victoria’s role here at AFC is Operations Manager and Ground Crew (occasionally also makes the tea ).
As well as this she is a familiar voice on the radio and heads up the IER team who are ever ready to leap into action should an incident ever occur on the airfield.

When asked what was the best bit about working here at Anglian Flight Centres she seemed to mumble a bit and I couldn’t quite hear her, but I am pretty certain she was saying something nice about me 😊.

So next time you come to see us at Anglian Flight Centres, Earls Colne Airfield say "Hi" to Victoria and perhaps ask her what she really did say!
