Some snippets from our Black History Month
1. We read about Nelson Mandela’s life and touched on the topics of racism and segregation in an age-appropriate manner.
2. We had a dance party to a playlist of iconic black music through the decades. (They particularly loved this one).
3. Sensory box of African goodies for the children to explore; painting of a woman churning and a tub of Shea butter; African print fabrics and a hand fan made of said fabric - we talked about hand churning a process which is used in many parts of Africa to make things such as Shea, we smelt and felt the Shea butter, felt the fabrics and looked at pictures of all the different things which can be made from them. And then the favourite which was playing around with the fan.
