🇯🇲 Jamaican Independence Day! 🇯🇲

Today the children learnt all about the country of Jamaica in celebration of Jamaican Independence Day, an important celebration with plenty of beautiful tradition and culture. The children were welcomed in this morning to some Reggae music playing, and enjoyed dancing their way down the hallway- along with some of the parents!

They created their own flags, made Jamaican Rock buns and learnt facts about Jamaica such as:

* The capital city is Kingston
*The country is covered in tropical forests
*Manatees and Sea Turtles live in the water!
*Ackee and Saltfish is the national dish of Jamaica

We also learnt a lovely saying...“Wi likkle, but wi tallawah,” which means “We may be small, but we are strong, brave and mighty.”

Thank you so much to the parents who provided lots of lovely ideas and information on their traditions and culture so we could teach the children about such a wonderful country and celebration!

🐢 A little visit from our friend, Tortuga! 🐢
The children recently enjoyed a visit from our team members tortoise, Tortuga, who is very confident at nursery now having visited a couple of times! Tortuga is happy to wander around the garden, be petted by the children gently and enjoys being fed some salad leaves!
The children have learnt how to take care of Tortuga when she is at nursery and enjoy finding out all about her life at home, what she likes to eat, and how Zoe cares for her!
Part of our curriculum at Holly Corner is to show care and a love for living things, so having Tortuga at nursery really supports the children in achieving this!

⭐ CLASS OF 2026! ⭐
Today was our school leavers 2026 graduation day!!
Here is a sneak peek of our set up!
Our wonderful pre school team have worked so hard to create a special experience for the children and families, and have done a brilliant job of supporting the children to be 'life and school ready' when they leave us!
We hope our lovely leavers had a fun morning! We can't wait to share more next week!

Lunch Time!! 🍛🍚🍽️
Today on the menu was Turkey Massala with rice, naan bread and yoghurt and cucumber dip! Yum!
The children at Holly Corner benefit from a carefully created menu which tailors to children's nutritional needs and includes ZERO salt or added sugar!

🌙 The children have been learning all about the Moon for International Moon Day!
Moon day is held on the 20th July which is the anniversary of the day on which astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin famously set foot on the Moon in 1969!
Our pre school children learnt all about this and explored a space themed tuff tray with 'Moon Sand', created their own rockets and even made their own moon paintings by looking carefully at the craters of the moon and recreating this. Our children in Hedgehogs made their own sparkly stars and moons to hang in the room and spoke about how we see the moon and stars at night-time!

Earlier this week the children enjoyed a sensory day! They loved exploring lots of different textures using a range of senses! They made ice cream with coloured foam, enjoyed water play in the garden, pouring and emptying containers, gloop play with shapes. They also had a Cooking Club session with Rob our chef making banana and apricot rock cakes using their fingers to mix in the different ingredients.
They learnt all about their 5 senses and how to use each one to explore different sensory activities.

The children in our 2-3's room have enjoyed a baking session with our chef Rob! They made teddy bear fruit biscuits!
The children were able to name all of the ingredients and helped to mix everything together before using cutters for their biscuits!
Cooking club encourages lots of mathematical language and encourages children to become aware of mathematical processes such as weighing and measuring, as well as discussing healthy eating and understanding the importance of a balanced diet.
