Tiny Batteries Pose Sizeable Risks
The number of serious injuries or deaths as a result of button batteries has increased nine-fold in the last decade.
Children want to explore. And young children have a tendency to put most of what they find laying around the house in their mouths.
If swallowed or placed in the nose or ears, button batteries can cause serious injury or death. Most pass through the body and are eliminated, but sometimes they get hung up in the oesophagus. An electrical current can form in the body and hydroxide, an alkaline chemical, can cause tissue burns that can be fatal.

Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.
