What a fabulous time we had at the KS1 & KS2 sports days.
Despite very hot weather Year 6 Sports Leaders helped organise events, supporting younger pupils to ensure the day ran smoothly. They demonstrated great responsibility and were excellent role models for the rest of the school. A particular well done and thank you must go to Mr Russell for all of his hard work in organising Sports Day and ensuring everything ran so smoothly. Thank you to all parents and family members who came along to support the children.

Year 5 took part in an outdoor afterschool tuition involving Skittles! We split into groups and, using the skittles, worked on finding fractions of amounts depending on the colours selected from the pack. The children thoroughly enjoyed this task, however that may be because they got to eat all the skittles at the end....

Despite the Great British weather, we managed to find some sunshine for our Year 2 science activity! ☀️
The children had a fantastic time making and testing their own sundials. They were amazed to see them actually working and loved investigating how shadows move throughout the day.

What an awards event it was! Some of the year 6 class attended TLA on Thursday evening. We watched some fabulous performances and performed our own Industrial Revolution act (including singing, dancing and acting). They were fabulous darling!
The star of the show had to be Louis. He performed an amazing moonwalk in front of over 350 people and wowed us all. Even the assistant head gave him a 'shout out' during his speech. Well done Louis- your acting career is calling you!

Year 6 visited Crucial Crew on Tuesday afternoon. We intended to have lunch in the park but, the sun very quickly turn to rain, thunder and lightning, as soon as we got off the bus. We were thankful to the Town House and the Youth Services team for scooping us up into their building and enabling us to eat in the dry.
The performance was amazing and involved scenarios acted out that involved children becoming involved in knife crime. We also learnt that 7 out of 10 knife related crimes involve people being stabbed with their own sharp instruments so carrying a sharp instrument to protect yourself is usually worse.
Year 6 received comments about their excellent behaviour and all of the adults were extremely proud of how they represented the school. They got involved but, they definitely showed how Cherry Tree are one of the best schools in Colchester. Well done year 6!

Last week we had a visit from Esther who works for Essex Police & Essex Fire & Rescue Service.
The children found her visit very useful as she showed them how to stay safe in and around water.

Welll done to the the Cherry Tree School Council members who attended Beat The Streets Schools Awards Ceremony.
The event was held at Firstsite and we were invited because of our participation and success in the event.
The children represented the school brilliantly and were delighted to receive this recognition. As part of the reward, they also enjoyed spending £70 at Red Lion Bookshop, selecting a range of exciting new books for the school.
Great work Cherry Tree!
