Over the last three years, Jess has shown incredible dedication, care, and passion in supporting the children, families, and team. As our Ducklings Room Leader, Jess creates a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can thrive, learn, and grow with confidence.

πβ¨ Exploring Shells in Pre-School! β¨π
The children in Pre-School had a wonderful time exploring the fascinating world of shells! They enjoyed investigating the different textures, shapes, and patterns, using their senses to discover what made each shell unique. π
The children loved holding shells to their ears and sharing their thoughts that they could βlisten to the oceanβ π. We talked about the word βshellβ and practised the βshβ sound, supporting our early communication, language, and phonics skills. We also enjoyed tracing the word and practising our mark-making. βοΈ
The children shared their ideas about where we might find shells, including βthe beachβ, βthe waterβ, and βthe gardenβ. We explored different textures too, comparing rough and smooth shells and using descriptive words to talk about how they felt. π
To finish our activity, we used clay to create our very own shell fossils by pressing our chosen shells into the clay to make beautiful patterns and imprints. π¨β¨

π½οΈβ¨ Encouraging Independence Through Self-Serving β¨π½οΈ
At our nursery, we encourage children to develop their independence through self-serving during mealtimes. π
Self-serving gives children the opportunity to make choices, build confidence, and develop important life skills. By serving their own food, pouring their own drinks, and deciding how much they would like, children begin to understand their own needs while developing independence and responsibility. π±
These experiences also support physical development as children practise coordination, control, and careful movements while using utensils and serving equipment. They learn to take turns, share with others, and develop positive social skills around mealtimes. π₯
Mealtimes are a valuable learning opportunity where children can build confidence, try new foods, and develop a healthy relationship with food in a relaxed and supportive environment. π

π§π§± The Importance of Outdoor Construction Play π§±π§
Our outdoor construction area is much more than just a place to buildβitβs a space where imagination, creativity, and learning come together! πΏβ¨
As children lift, carry, stack, and balance different materials, they are developing their gross and fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and physical strength. Every tower, bridge, or obstacle course they create encourages them to think critically, solve problems, and explore new ideas. ποΈ
Construction play also supports important social skills. Children learn to work together, share ideas, take turns, and communicate as they plan and build alongside their friends. These experiences help to build confidence, resilience, and teamwork. π
Being outdoors adds even more opportunities for learning. With plenty of space to create on a larger scale, children can investigate balance, shape, size, and measurement while connecting with the natural environment. π³π
At our nursery, we value the power of play-based learning, and our outdoor construction area gives children the freedom to explore, experiment, and bring their imaginations to lifeβone brick at a time! π‘β¨
