The Scottish Parliament will be holding some Gaelic sessions later in the month – a Gaelic awareness course with some simple Gaelic phrases for learners and people interested in Gaelic and a session in Gaelic about how to engage with and influence the Parliament. I know in my previous post I reminded everyone that Fèis Lannraig a Tuath starts two weeks on Monday. Thanks for all your responses. We look forward to welcoming you all and seeing some new faces and some old ones. I would like to take this chance to remind everyone that the fèis is open to High School age children as well as Primary and we are running photography workshops and animation workshops with this age in mind. Our animation workshops will continue after the fèis and we are hoping (funding allowing) that the photography ones will too. Our participants already signed up include those up to age 16 so no one needs to feel they are too old for fèis. Many of those who attend to age 16 continue as volunteers or tutors and it is great to see their connection with the fèis continue in this way.

Today is the day 5 of or International Gaelic Week.
Today Condorrat Primary School have 2 workshops. The first is Leugh is Seinn le Linda with the brilliant Linda MacLeod who will read some Gaelic stories. This event is for younger children. Their other event is a drama workshop with Gaelic television and theatre star Artair Donald.
Comann nam Pàrant NL are also hosting a virtual ceilidh today at 7pm. Tickets only cost £5 per family and you still are able to buy them here https://tinyurl.com/bde5crat. All are welcome to log on.
This is the last Gaelic event organised in North Lanarkshire this week and my thanks to Tollbrae Primary, Condorrat Primary, and Comann nam Pàrant NL for all of their amazing work!

Virtual Ceilidh
Today is the first day of or International Gaelic Week.
Today Condorrat Primary have a shinty trial session and singer Mairi MacInnes giving a singing workshop. Sounds great!

I am delighted to be to share with you a short film about Gaelic in North Lanarkshire. Loads of hard work from so many people went into making this film "Why Gaelic." I really hope you enjoy it!
Tomorrow Condorrat Primary will be running another Shinty session for those of you who are unable to make today's session. Lindsey Charnley and her Step Wee Ceilidh will be back for younger children to sing and dance with Gaelic.

To say "I love you" in Gaelic you'd say "Tha Gaol agam ort" (sounds like - ha goo-ul akam ort).

One of my favourite expressions is "Thig crìoch air an t-saoghal ach mairidh gaol is ceòl -- the world will come to an end but love and music will live on."

If you're wanting to say that something that's utterly romantic why don't you say ""tha gaol mo chridhe agam ort -- I love you with all my heart"!

To ask someone "what languages do you speak" in Gaelic we say "Dè na cànanan a th' agad?"

Today is Diluain Gorm or Blue Moday, that time when we're often inclined to give up on our New Years Resolutions. The phrase "Rùn na Bliadhna Ùire" means a "New Years Resolution. Has your Rùn na Bliadhna Ùire been to learn Gaelic?
