School applications are now open ππΌ
Whilst we may have only just said goodbye to our school leavers it's never too early to start thinking about next year.
The time has come to think about primary school applications! If your child turns 4 between September 1st and August 31st of the current academic year, you need to apply for their school place.
The application window opens every year on September 1st and closes on January 15th.
Here is a quick guide on how the process works in Leicestershire, along with some top hints and tips to help you navigate it smoothly.
π The Application Process
Apply online: Use the Leicestershire County Council Parent Portal.
https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools-colleges-and-academies/apply-for-a-school-place
Rank your schools: You can list up to five school preferences.
Submit on time: Late applications are processed after everyone else.
National Offer Day: Results are released on April 16th (or the next working day).
π‘ Top Hints & Tips
Check catchments: Use the Leicestershire Council Catchment Map to find your local catchment school, as catchment children get priority.
Read the criteria: Every academy or local school has its own admission policy. Check how they prioritise places (e.g., siblings, distance).
Use all 5 choices: Listing fewer schools does not increase your chances of getting your top pick. If you miss out on your listed choices, the council will assign any school with a vacancy.
Be realistic: Always include at least one school where you meet high-priority criteria, such as your catchment area school.
Visit the schools: Book open days to get a feel for the environment and ask staff questions directly.
Proofread your details: Ensure your address history and sibling details are 100% accurate before submitting.
Good luck, everyone!
