💫 Let’s Save Our Children’s Childhood
When did sitting still become the measure of success? 💔

It’s been a year of offering solutions, of asking to collaborate with the local council with open hearts.

Instead of support, we got silence. Dismissal. Resistance.

Now, I’m appealing to the government just to protect what should be sacred:
🌿 A child’s right to play freely in nature.

While we plead for outdoor spaces, the system doubles down on targets, testing, and sterile classrooms.

Then came that DfE “school readiness” video:
Children sitting silently in rows. No mud. No joy. No curiosity.

That’s not readiness.
That’s compliance.
That’s childhood being stripped away.

Some days I wonder why I keep going.
But then I remember:
✨ Children are counting on us.
✨ Their joy, their freedom, their childhood is on the line.
✨ We are their voice when the system forgets how to listen.

In Sweden, Denmark, Finland, children are nurtured, not rushed.
There’s hygge: warmth, connection, contentment.
It’s all rooted in PLAY, PRESENCE, and NATURE.

So why are we still forcing our children indoors and calling stillness “success”?

We need a radical shift:
🌱 Child-led learning
🌱 Nature-rich spaces
🌱 Time to wonder, explore, belong

Let’s stop taming childhood.
Let’s raise kids who feel the earth under their feet, who know the woods, who feel safe to be themselves.

💛 I do this because I can’t not.
💛 Because muddy hands build strong minds.
💛 Because we are the guardians of childhood.

💫Hello! Happy New Year! Apologies for being quiet on socials, but it’s been lovely to receive such warm DMs about our return. I’ve been settling into the stillness of winter, gently slowing down to rest and reflect on the small business hardships but also the amount of love I continually receive from our families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

❄️ January’s ice now offers us a peaceful pause. Once melted we will be allowing time to nurture our space in preparation for what’s to come.

♥️ I look forward to sharing heartfelt, cozy, soulful moments with you as we move through the season, holding warmth and connection close.

✨If you would like to book onto upcoming sessions please get in touch and we will get you registered. Current Tinker Tribe members, our Saturday Forest School sessions are online now. Please contact me for the password.

💫As we head into 2025, let’s rediscover the power of an outdoor childhood and life beyond screens. Remember the thrill of exploring — climbing trees, riding bikes and simply enjoying nature. The world may have changed, but the beauty and power of the outdoors is timeless. I will tell my story and continue to encourage others to reconnect with nature, nurture that spirit of adventure and get outside with our children from birth! Let’s protect the world for future generations by teaching our young children to love nature, not be disconnected from it.

💫 Don’t forget about the Elf quest! A natures version of ‘elf on the shelf’ and good old fashioned hide & seek.

Your children will go on a trail around the woodland and complete a series of tasks to receive a small prize.

We will also have Christmas themed outdoor play, games and our campfire on. 🌳🎅🏻🔥

Bring all the family to join in the quest on Saturday 14th December 2-4pm

💫For toddlers, the natural world provides a tranquil, sensory-rich environment that is inherently soothing. The sounds of birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the gentle flow of our stream, creates a peaceful backdrop that helps regulate emotions. Away from the overwhelming stimuli of screens and structured schedules, toddlers in forest school experience a slower-paced, less distracting environment that fosters a sense of calm. This tranquility can help children unwind, lower stress levels, and feel more grounded.

🌳One of the hallmarks of forest schools is the freedom they offer children to play, explore and learn in their own way without tight restraints of the indoors. Toddlers are not confined to a classroom or a strict curriculum but are allowed to explore the world around them at their own pace. Whether they’re climbing trees, digging in the soil, or observing wildlife, these experiences foster autonomy and self-confidence. This freedom to choose enables children to follow their own curiosities, which not only nurtures their love for learning but also promotes a sense of independence and self-regulation. Practitioners are there to encourage, observe and promote learning through the children’s own individual interests.

🌳The open-ended nature of our forest school activities helps toddlers engage deeply in their play. Unlike traditional classrooms, where children may quickly lose interest in structured lessons but told to stay sat down or even be asked to move on from what they are doing to a different task, forest school encourage prolonged periods of engagement with self chosen nature-based activities. Whether it’s observing insects, naming trees, drilling disks, collecting leaves, or building a shelter from sticks, these activities require focus and patience. Through these hands-on experiences, toddlers develop the ability to concentrate and stay engaged in tasks without the usual distractions of an indoor setting.

✨In a society that often prioritises structure and control, forest schools offer a refreshing reminder that sometimes the best way to learn, grow and calm the mind is simply to spend time in the wild.

Freedom, Focus and Calm in Nature 🌟
