Yesterday we created our 2026-2027 Valued Behaviours with the children in Years 1-4.

These are the behaviour expectations that everyone in our school community should follow and strive to model.

We also explained to the children what happens if someone doen't live our Valued Behaviours and how they may not see the work that goes into supporting and working with others to help them to understand and behave as expected.

We talked about the importance of creating our Valued Behaviours together so that everyone feels they have given their views and are more likely to exemplify them.

Our new Valued Behaviours were also explained and shared with Chestnut and Acorn later in the day.

'Every day is a school day!'

'You learn something new every day.'

I'm not just talking about the children - us teachers and adults in school are constantly receiving update training and training on new strategies and techniques - to ensure St. Mary's is always the BEST it can be.

Last week, we had some amazing training from Mr. P. (ICT with Mr P - Tech to Raise Standards)! Lots of you won't know who this is, but he is well renowned in education. He can be found on the socials supporting adults working in schools and suggesting ways we can further enhance our practice.

This was exactly what the training last week was all about, where we learnt how to navigate effective use of technology in school.

We were joined by our friends and colleagues at Haynes Lower and had an incredibly enjoyable and informative morning.

There will be LOTS of new strategies and ideas we will now be implementing in our classrooms.

Adults in schools don't just achieve their degrees and qualifications and are done - there is always something new for us to learn and try out to enhance our work at St. Mary's.

Great news!

Just before the summer holidays, the school was awarded the School Games Mark Platinum Award!

This is a government-led scheme facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust that rewards schools for long-term excellence in physcial education, school sport and competive participation.

To achieve Platinum, as a school we have had to achieve Gold for multiple consecutive years (5!) before qualifying for Platinum.

This amazing achievement really reflects the hard work of Miss Grassi, our Physical Education co-ordinator, and also on the amazing physical education experiences we offer our children both within and outside school (through extra-curricular clubs and events).

Our brand new Platinum logo has now been added to our website and letter paper.

Our Superstar Readers enjoyed their afternoon tea treat for reading five or more times over 10 weeks of this Summer Term!

This is such a fantastic achievement and it's so lovely to be able to celebrate this with the children.

Let's see how many children join the afternoon tea treat for the Autumn Term 2026!

Today is all about our Year 4s.

It is once again time to say 'goodbye' and 'good luck' to another cohort of children, most of whom have worked their way through St. Mary's from very tiny Acorns!

As I write this, we have just given them our 'official' best wishes at our Leavers' Service in Church, where each Year 4 was presented with a gift from the school and Friend's of St. Mary's. This contains a battery candle in a candle holder, so they remember the message to continue to, 'Shine Your Light'. There is also a little card with some words of wisdom and a maths set to help them get started at their next school.

We are also looking forward to their presentation to their parents and carers this afternoon in the school hall, where they will share some of their skills and memories of their time at St. Mary's.

Whilst it is always sad to say goodbye, we know our Year 4s are now ready for new experiences and challenges at their next schools.

We wish them all the very best for the future and hope they always remember their time at St. Mary's fondly.

Yesterday and today we enjoyed two very special assemblies - both to say 'good luck' to Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Brown who will be leaving soon to have their babies.

Mrs. Barr will be leaving at the end of this academic year (but coming back before the end of next academic year!). Yesterday, one of our younger classes put on an amazing performance to say 'goodbye and good luck' to her. It included a beautiful song about rainbows too - one of Mrs. Barr's favourites (which made us all a bit emotional!).

Mrs. Brown will still be with us until the end of October but, as she won't have a class responsibility at the beginning of next term, her current class were tasked with giving her a 'good luck' send off. Dressed as Toy Story characters - due to Mrs. Brown's love of Disney - they talked about the Values she'd need when having her baby, linked to the characters in Toy Story. They also read out a special poem for her. Mrs. Brown will also return before the end of next academic year.

We look forward to meeting Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Brown's babies and will keep you updated with baby news as we receive it!

Our iRockers were AMAZING last Thursday!

They proudly performed to a packed hall of their peers and parents/carers - what a show!

We had a fantastic Sports Day on Friday and managed to navigate the heat to ensure the children enjoyed all of the groups challenges as well as the traditional races at the end.

We hope all parents and carers who came to watch enjoyed it too. Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to send in positive comments about the event - it is much appreciated.
