The Tolkien Trail Race returns to Stonyhurst College on 31st December 2026.

What better way to see out the old year than with one final adventure? 🏃‍♀️✨

A wonderful evening at Stonyhurst College for the ABF’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Reception and Beating Retreat. Set against the stunning backdrop of the college, the Band of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment delivered a memorable musical marching display, continuing a centuries-old British Army tradition as the sun set.

Guests enjoyed champagne and canapés before the ceremony, making for a truly special occasion in support of The Army Benevolent Fund. Thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable evening.

The adventure is complete!

What an amazing day. A huge well done to everybody who took part in Saturdays Tolkien Trail Race. Whether you raced, marshalled, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines, thank you for making our race one to remember!

Enjoy a well-earned rest, keep an eye out for our Winter Race entries opening soon, and we’ll see you back on the trail for another adventure!

The Fellowship is almost complete, but we still need a few brave marshals to help guide our adventurers around the Tolkien Trail Race on the 11th of July.

Whether you're keeping runners on the right path, offering words of encouragement, or standing watch like the Rangers of the North, your support will help make this epic journey possible.

We’re building our team of volunteer marshals for the Tolkien Trail Race this July — and it’s one of the best ways to experience the day.

You’ll be out on the course, soaking up the atmosphere, cheering runners on, and playing a key role in making sure the event runs smoothly and safely.

It’s a brilliant way to be involved, meet people, and enjoy the energy of race day — without running a single mile.

And to say thank you? You’ll receive a free place in our Winter Race.

The race may be full, but there is still a way to be part of the day.

As the Tolkien Trail Race returns to Stonyhurst this July, we are looking for volunteers to join us as marshals along the course.

From guiding runners on their way to creating the atmosphere that carries them to the finish, our marshals play a vital role in making the day what it is.

For those who missed out on a place this summer, this is a wonderful opportunity to be involved — and as a thank you, all marshals will receive a free place in our Winter Race.
