Bowland Bioenergy Ltd

Bowland Bioenergy Ltd Bowland Bioenergy Ltd manufacture & supply biomass wood fuel - wood chips & ENplusA1 wood pellets to British Standards. Why Wood Fuel?

Kiln dried, hardwood & softwood logs in nets, builder's bags or tipped trailer loads. All responsibly sourced from managed woodlands. From a small start in 2005, the company now takes wood from large tracts of the county’s woods – including areas managed by Lancashire County Council (LCC), Natural England (NE), the Forestry Commission (FC) and private estates – and turns it into top quality wood f

uel. The benefits of managing these areas of woodland, replanting and contributing to carbon capture go alongside considerably lower fuel costs for users who currently include schools, horticultural businesses, housing developments, large country houses and higher education establishments. As an accredited processor of trees carrying diseases such as Phytophthora ramorum, our biosecurity measures ensure no further spread from infected trees. Wood fuel has the potential to provide a never-ending source of clean, safe energy. In the UK, trees are harvested in such a way that the total amount of wood felled is completely replenished through the process. The young trees absorb large amounts of CO2 as they grow, contributing to the carbon neutrality of the whole process. With spiralling fuel costs and a potentially unreliable supply of fossil fuels such as oil and gas, many people are looking at the alternatives – and wood fuel is suitable for a range of applications. It is easily transported, available when needed and locally produced, reducing transport costs. Financial incentives, including the Renewable Heat Incentive, are available for new installations. Bowland Bioenergy is bringing previously uneconomic woodlands back into beneficial management, resulting in local employment, improved biodiversity and securing the future of an important local and global habitat.

🌳 A visit to Sycamore Gap

Last week we had the opportunity to visit the iconic Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall.

It was great to take some time away from the yard and see this remarkable landscape first-hand. The story of the sycamore, the surrounding woodland and the ongoing work to protect and restore the site really highlights the importance of looking after our trees and countryside for future generations.

As a business working with locally sourced timber and renewable wood fuel, we’re always interested in seeing how woodland and timber are managed, valued and enjoyed.

A beautiful place, an important piece of our local heritage, and certainly worth a visit. 🌿

Here are a few photos from our visit last week.
1. The tree stump behind the wooden post & rail fence.
2. Regeneration of the tree.
3. Regeneration from the other side.
4. The iconic gap.

A Question We Get Asked All the Time…

"Can I burn freshly cut wood?"

Technically, yes...

But should you?

Not really.

Freshly cut timber can contain more than 50% moisture, which means much of your fire's energy is wasted evaporating water before the wood burns properly.

That's why fresh wood often produces lots of smoke, very little heat and leaves your chimney dirtier than it needs to be.

Ready to Burn certified firewood has already been dried to the correct moisture level, giving you cleaner combustion, more heat and a much more enjoyable fire.

Choosing the right logs protects your stove, improves efficiency and helps reduce emissions.

Sometimes the simplest change makes the biggest difference.

Have You Checked Your Log Store?

Here's a quick weekend job that only takes a few minutes...

Go and have a look at your log store.

How many weeks of firewood have you actually got left?

Every autumn we speak to customers who thought they had "plenty" of logs, only to realise they'd used far more than expected during the first few cold weeks.

August is the perfect time to top up while the weather is still good.

Keeping your log store well stocked means you'll always be ready when temperatures suddenly drop.

If you're storing your logs outdoors, remember to keep them raised off the ground and allow plenty of airflow around them. Good storage helps maintain their quality until you're ready to burn them.

Need to top up?

Visit www.bowlandbioenergy.co.uk and we'll help you prepare for the colder months ahead.

Five Signs You're Burning Good Firewood

Not sure whether your logs are doing what they should?

Here are five signs you're burning quality Ready to Burn logs:

🔥 They light quickly.

🔥 The flames are bright and lively.

🔥 Your stove glass stays much cleaner.

🔥 You get plenty of heat from each basket of logs.

🔥 There's very little hissing or steaming from the wood.

If your logs are difficult to light, constantly smoulder, or leave your stove black with soot, the moisture content could be too high.

Using dry firewood isn't just better for your stove—it makes every fire more enjoyable and helps reduce emissions too.

It's amazing how much difference good fuel can make.
