Today in pre school we all enjoyed taking part in a range of World Cup-themed activities this week. We showed lots of excitement whilst exploring different countries, flags and football-related challenges. The activities encouraged us to learn through play whilst developing a range of skills.
🏴England Sensory Tray🏴
🏴We explored the coloured rice using spoons, cups and scoops.
🏴We practiced our letter recognition with the letters in “England” and identified numbers hidden in the tray.
🏴 We used our fine motor skills through filling, pouring and transporting rice.
🌎Flag Drawing Activity🌎
🇺🇸We Looked carefully at flags from different countries and attempted to recreate them.
🏴 We used our pencil control and mark-making skills.
🇮🇶We talked about different countries and their flags.
🇨🇳We showed creativity and confidence when drawing their chosen flags.
⚽ Football Threading Activity⚽️
⚽️We used our fine motor skills to thread cereal hoops onto pipe cleaners.
⚽️We had very good concentration and hand-eye coordination.
⚽️ we counted the hoops as they threaded them onto the football sticks.
⚽️We did brilliant number recognition
We also all made a beautiful picture collage to make a big England flag to support our country in tonight’s match!!!
Over all we all remained engaged throughout the activities and enjoyed sharing their ideas and experiences with each other. We all took turns well and helped each other out which was so lovely to see ❤️

Today, some of our preschool children enjoyed their fortnightly visit to Abbeyfield House, Clitheroe 🏡
As part of our World Cup theme ⚽🌍, the children coloured their own footballer puppets before enjoying a drink and a biscuit with the residents.
We then spent some time outside in the garden 🌳☀️ playing hide and seek.
We then finished our visit by singing songs for the residents. It was lovely to see the children and residents spending time together, sharing smiles 😊 and making special memories 💕
Thank you again to the care home for always providing us with such special visits 🥰

🐛 🦋 THE HUNGRY CATERPILLAR 🦋 🐛
This week in the 2-3 room our theme is healthy eating and our book of the week is The Hungry Caterpillar! Today the children engaged in a range of activities linked to The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They explored the story through sensory play, pattern making, fine motor activities, and discussions about the caterpillar’s life cycle.
The children used modelling dough to create leaves and cocoons for the caterpillar, manipulating and shaping the dough with their hands. This supported the development of fine motor strength and control as they rolled, squeezed, flattened, and moulded the dough into different forms.
During the “Feed the Very Hungry Caterpillar” activity, children selected different food items and fed them through the caterpillar’s mouth. They confidently named familiar foods, discussed healthy and unhealthy choices, and counted the foods as they fed the caterpillar. Children demonstrated sustained engagement and recalled events from the story, showing an understanding of sequencing and memory skills.
The children also explored patterns by drawing different marks and repeating designs on a large caterpillar template. They experimented with zigzags, spirals, straight lines, and wavy patterns, developing their early writing and mark-making skills while recognising and creating simple patterns.
What a lovely morning we have had in the 2-3 room and the Hungry Caterpillar definitely isn’t hungry anymore!! 🐛🦋🥰
