Following the latest Alps analysis, Stonyhurst has achieved an Alps Grade 2 for A level value added, placing the school within the top 10% nationally for pupil progress.

Our 2026 A level results also performed positively against the national picture, with 33% of grades awarded at A–A*, 61% at A–B* and 82% at A–C*, all above the respective national averages.

Strong value-added performance was seen across a range of subjects, including one achieving Alps Grade 1 – top 1% nationally for value added – and five achieving Alps Grade 2 – top 10% nationally.

These results reflect not only what our pupils achieve, but the progress they make throughout their time at Stonyhurst.

This week, 105 pilgrims from across the Stonyhurst community are in Lourdes, including 10 current pupils, young Old Stonyhursts and many Stonyhurst families.

Together, they have joined around 500 pilgrims from across the Catholic Association for a particularly special pilgrimage, marking the Association’s 125th anniversary.

Yesterday, the Stonyhurst group celebrated Mass together, including a moving rendition of the Pater Noster, while this morning pilgrims gathered for an outdoor Mass at Cité Saint-Pierre to mark the anniversary.

On Wednesday at 10.00am, our Stonyhurst pilgrims will celebrate Mass at the Grotto, and we warmly invite the wider Stonyhurst community to join them online.

Follow the Mass live via the Lourdes Grotto livestream: https://bit.ly/3SjL0RS

We wish all our pilgrims a very special and memorable week in Lourdes.

Stonyhurst is celebrating another strong year of GCSE results, with pupils achieving excellent outcomes across the cohort and continued improvement at the highest grades.

45% of grades were awarded at Grades 9–7, more than double the national average, while 30% were awarded at Grades 9–8 and 16% achieved the highest possible Grade 9.

Attainment of the highest grades has now improved for the third consecutive year, reflecting the hard work and commitment of our pupils and the dedicated support of our teaching staff.
Alongside the strong overall performance, 15% of pupils achieved exclusively Grades 8 and 9.

Congratulations to all our pupils on their achievements and every success as they take their next steps into Higher Line.

A passion for military history has led to an extraordinary opportunity for one of our Figures (Year 7) pupils.

At just 12 years old, Joseph submitted an academic abstract to RAF Research, impressing the team and earning a special invitation for a private, behind-the-scenes visit to the RAF Museum Midlands at Cosford.

The visit offered a rare opportunity to explore some remarkable pieces of British aviation history, including a former Queen’s Flight VC-10, a Shorts Belfast and the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre.

A wonderful example of where curiosity, independent learning and a genuine passion for a subject can lead.

Congratulations, Joseph!

A new chapter for football at Stonyhurst.

From September 2026, the Stonyhurst Football School of Excellence pathway will extend to St Mary’s Hall, offering pupils in Years 5 and 6 specialist football development from the very start of their Stonyhurst journey.

With twice-weekly training from UEFA-qualified coaches, individual development plans, talent ID and performance opportunities, the programme builds skill, confidence and character both on and off the pitch.

The new pathway creates a clear progression from St Mary’s Hall through to Stonyhurst College and Sixth Form.

Applications are now open, with invitations offered following assessment.

What does it mean to educate the whole person?

In our latest blog, we explore how a Stonyhurst education goes beyond academic achievement to develop character, confidence, resilience and a desire to make a positive difference in the world.

From the classroom to boarding, service, sport and creativity, pupils are encouraged to discover their strengths and grow into men and women for others.

This approach was recognised in our 2026 ISI inspection, with Stonyhurst’s co-curricular programme identified as a Significant Strength for its impact on pupils’ wellbeing and personal development.

Every journey after Sixth Form is unique.

For alumna Lottie Eastham (OS 2021), it began with a careers event at Stonyhurst that introduced her to degree apprenticeships. Today, she is a Digital Design Specialist at Bentley Motors, having completed a fully funded degree alongside four years of industry experience.

Lottie's story is a reminder that success comes in many forms. At Stonyhurst Sixth Form, careers education is about helping every pupil discover where their strengths and ambitions could take them. Through individual guidance, careers events, employer connections and an enhanced careers programme, pupils are encouraged to explore the full range of opportunities beyond school.

Discover where a Stonyhurst Sixth Form education could take you at our Open Evening on 24th September. Register for a place: https://bit.ly/3U5dsVj
