As we reach the end of our first half term, the Stonyhurst community came together in St Peter’s Church for a beautiful service of Choral Vespers.

Led by Fr Tim Curtis SJ, with our choir providing a wonderful musical accompaniment, this cherished tradition offers a moment of prayer, reflection and thanksgiving.

Rooted in the Catholic tradition of evening prayer, Choral Vespers provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the weeks we have shared and celebrate our sense of community as we conclude another busy half term at Stonyhurst.

We wish all our pupils, colleagues and families a restful and enjoyable half-term break.

Stonyhurst Pupil Named Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026! 🏆

We are incredibly proud to celebrate an extraordinary achievement by one of our Syntax (Year 11) pupils, who has been crowned Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026 in the Natural History Museum's prestigious international competition.

The award-winning photograph, Labour of Love, captures a remarkable moment in the natural world, as a determined dung beetle pushes its precious cargo across the sandy landscape of Zimbabwe.

Selected from a competition attracting over 65,000 entries from 121 countries, the photograph was awarded both the 11–14 Years category prize and the overall Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year title.

The achievement has also attracted national media attention, including an interview with the BBC, and the winning photograph will be displayed at the Natural History Museum in London.

A remarkable recognition of creativity, patience and talent, and a wonderful example of the extraordinary things our pupils can achieve when they pursue their passions.

Congratulations to one of our Upper Elements (Year 6) pupils, who has enjoyed two outstanding weekends of competition at the North Lancashire Swimming Championships.

Securing gold medals in both the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, she became the fastest 10-year-old swimmer in North Lancashire in both events. She also achieved bronze in the 50m breaststroke, alongside several new personal bests and county qualifying times.

Her impressive 50m freestyle performance, completed in just 33.05 seconds, has also placed her seventh in the UK rankings for her age group, according to her coach.

With multiple county qualifying times secured, she will now go on to compete at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

A fantastic achievement and a wonderful reflection of her hard work and dedication. Well done!

This October half term, young tennis players are invited to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy expert coaching in the outstanding surroundings of Stonyhurst.

Led by our experienced coaching team, including Director of Tennis David Shaw, the camp offers a welcoming and engaging environment for players of all abilities. From developing technique to refining match play, each session is designed to encourage progression and a love for the game.

Taking place in our indoor Tennis Dome, the camp provides an opportunity to experience the exceptional sporting facilities and specialist coaching available at Stonyhurst.

This morning, our College community gathered in St Peter’s for our half-termly Awards Assembly, recognising the outstanding academic and co-curricular achievements of our pupils.

From academic success to sporting accomplishments and contributions beyond the classroom, pupils were presented with Colours, in recognition of their hard work, dedication and commitment.

A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many talents of our pupils and their achievements throughout the first half of term.

This National Cadet Week, we join His Majesty King Charles III in recognising the invaluable contribution of the Cadet Forces in helping young people develop confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility.

At Stonyhurst, our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) provides pupils with opportunities to develop practical skills, leadership and teamwork through a wide range of activities.

This week, pupils have been putting these skills into practice through First Aid, Navigation, Fieldcraft and Weapon Handling.

With First Aid highlighted as one of this year's National Cadet Week themes, it is particularly fitting to see our cadets developing skills that could one day make a real difference.

Yesterday, we were treated to a sneak peek of rehearsals for the traditional Rhetoric Recital, a highlight of Rhetoric Parents’ Weekend.

The recital is a wonderful opportunity for our Rhetoric (Year 13) pupils to showcase their confidence, creativity and talents in front of family and friends as they enjoy their final year at Stonyhurst.
