Do they lack confidence in maths? Are they anxious or worried about the challenges they might face in Year 6?

😊 From Tuesday June 9th 4-5pm I'm going to be running a small group ~ no more than 4 ~ focusing on mental mathematics/arithmetic and building strong mental number sense. The group will be continuing into Year 6 too!

🛠️ Why Foundations Matter

✅️Prevents Overwhelm: Solid basics free up working memory. Students can then focus on complex multi-step Year 6 problems.

✅️Help to Bridge Gaps in Knowledge: Other mathematical concepts such as fractions, decimals, and percentages build directly on basic place value and multiplication. Missing foundations break this chain.

🚀 Why Growing Confidence Matters

✅️Conquers Maths Anxiety: Low confidence triggers a fight-or-flight response. This physically blocks logical thinking and working memory during tests.

✅️Promotes Positive Risk-Taking: Confident pupils attempt unfamiliar, high-mark word problems instead of leaving pages blank.

✅️Shifts Mindset: Group validation changes a child's inner dialogue from "I cannot do maths" to "I cannot do this yet."

I’m offering small, supportive tuition groups designed to build confidence and boost results before the SATs tests.

✨ Let’s Talk About Maths Anxiety in Children ✨

Did you know that even primary-aged children can experience maths anxiety?
It’s that feeling of worry, stress, or even fear when faced with numbers, sums, or tests. For some children, it shows up as tummy aches before school, saying “I can’t do it,” or avoiding homework altogether.

The good news? 💡
Maths anxiety isn’t about ability—it’s about confidence. Children can learn to see maths as a puzzle to be explored, not a problem to fear.

🌟 A few tips to help at home:
✅ Praise effort, not just correct answers.
✅ Make maths fun—use games, cooking, or shopping to sneak numbers into everyday life.
✅ Model a positive attitude—avoid saying “I’m bad at maths,” as children quickly pick up on this.
✅ Break tasks into small, achievable steps to build confidence.

Does your child worry about maths, even when they’re trying their best?
Many children experience maths anxiety at some point during their school journey - but with the right support, they can learn to feel calm, capable, and confident.

Inspiring children to love learning with a focus on confidence building runs through every session at Spark Education.

I'm seeing more and more children suffering with Maths anxiety so I've decided to run 2 small Maths Confidence Groups designed especially for Year 2 & 6 pupils:
