Today is CAFOD Family Fasting Day.

In exchange for everyone in school being able to wear their own clothes you have all kindly donated food and money.

The food and money donations will go to the Grimsby Food Bank to help people who need support.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day, quiet, and reflective season before Easter.
On Wednesday, all at St Joseph’s received ashes on our foreheads in a cross shape, symbolising sorrow for wrongdoings, a desire to do better, and a reminder that God loves them. It is a time for prayer, fasting (giving things up), and helping others.
Then everyone lit a tealight and placed it in a tray of sand. The sand is to represent Jesus’ 40 days in the desert as he resisted the temptation of the Devil. The lights are representing the light of Jesus in the darkness.
These lights will stay lit in our school throughout Lent.
What are the ashes? They come from burning the palm branches from the previous year's Palm Sunday.
What does the cross mean? A priest puts ashes on the forehead to show that we are sorry for making mistakes and to remind us that we belong to Jesus.
What is the message?
"Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return," reminding us that life is precious and we need God
What is Lent? It is a 40-day journey to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter, just as Jesus spent 40 days in the desert.
How do we celebrate? By praying more, being extra kind (almsgiving), and sometimes giving up treats or video games (fasting) to focus on God.
Ash Wednesday is a fresh start to turn our hearts toward love and kindness.

You’ll receive guided support from our friendly tutors throughout the course of your choice.

They run within school hours and ONLY in term time and not during half term/ end of term periods.

Sugar free February helping parents protect little smiles.

This sugar free February, we're encouraging families to take a simple step that can make a big difference to children’s oral health - cutting back on added sugar.
By swapping sugary snacks and drinks for healthier options throughout the month, parents can help protect their child’s teeth from tooth decay, strengthen good habits, and support brighter healthier smiles.
Small changes like choosing water over juice, offering sugar - free snacks, or saving sweet treats to mealtimes can help keep children’s teeth strong now and the future .

Tuesday 10th February is Safer Internet Day which is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety, covering online issue or themes relevant to young people.

The theme for Safer Internet Day 2026 is ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI’.

Safer Internet Day is co-ordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre.

Alongside our parents afternoon tomorrow we are are having a jumble sale in school from 1.15pm. We have rails of clothes, school uniform, shoes and toys available. We are asking for donations with a minimum donation of 50p and all proceeds will go to St Andrews Hospice.

Three children from St Joseph's joined St Mary's School to celebrate The Feast of the Epiphany on 6th January, when the Magi visited Jesus in Bethlehem. They were a credit to the school. After Mass, they asked to light candles and offer prayers.
