Our play is often noisy and full of movement, which can look haphazard and unplanned. This is because the children lead with their ideas, which unfold into new and exciting learning experiences while we are on hand to facilitate and extend this play with further opportunities for learning.
Last week the children were fascinated by Pokemons, which lead to us building a water park, pokemon house and even putting on a pokemon show! To further this and follow their line of interest, this week we have focused on superheroes . Yesterday the children designed their own super hero capes on paper. We then used the laptop and printer to create some transfers to match their ideas to make real capes and masks.
To quote the EYFS - Characteristics of Effective learning - Thinking creatively and critically.
"Children think of their own ideas, imagine possibilities, and creatively combine ideas in spontaneous ways."
the children worked together to build a super hero lair. The older children helped the younger children to put on their outfits. we explored our voices on the super phone. Practiced super poses, read super-tatoe books, made up our own narratives and most of all had fun!
Children don't have to know that they are learning, but play is full of endless possibilities and learning opportunities.
