SOLD!! Now winging its way over to Ireland with the new owner š®šŖš
this panoramic painting of the view from Longshaw estate in Derbyshire is rather too wide to view on instagramās portrait format, however here are a series of thumbnail sections which highlight separate areas - looking at them this way is making me wonder if I could interrogate this view further, in smaller chunks maybe? š¤
We scattered my Dadās ashes up here many years ago and it was a similarly blustery, October day, as depicted in this painting. It always reminds me of that day. A place with special memories.

We have been having such a gorgeous time there hasnāt been a moment spare to post any pictures of our retreat so far⦠the sun has shone and our intrepid participants have been up hill and rocky crag, through the wooded valley and are now relaxing on the local pubā¦
Watercolours and sketching techniques have been popular so far with a few forays into acrylic - itās all been very creative so far! Our thanks go to Claudine and team for looking after us so well - gorgeous meals each day and packed lunches for our sketching travels - what artist could ask for more?! Winston the dog is also helping šš„

Gorgeous day painting outdoors as part of Hopton Hallās āmonth of artā, lots of other artists dotted about with easels, such fun 𤩠why not pop in this July to see the roses, gardens and Lesley Linleyās super watercolour exhibition - winner of 2025ās award šāØ cafe with refreshments too š
Donāt think my attempts are good enough to enter the competition - itās rather sketchy but I much prefer to leave it as a sketch done all on location than spend hours slaving over a photograph back at home at this sunny time of year - thereās far too much to do outdoors!

As a Derbyshire landlubber Iām always excited to be heading to the coast - in preparation for my art retreat in Lynmouth this August I picked up this fantastic collection of vintage postcards š will the way we view the landscape have changed since they were published? How will our lovely participants choose to depict the scenery? And more importantly, will the weather be kind for us?! š
Looking forward to guiding the group around the wooded gorges, rivers and cliff to scenery, sketchbook in hand, whatever the weather⦠I canāt wait!!
Thanks in advance to our wonderful venue at , we are looking forward to our stay āŗļøāØ

Alas! A stinking cold virus has stopped me in my tracks, today I have found the only thing I can manage is sitting still outdoors⦠somehow watercolours can be used with even the most pickled brain so I gathered some of these enormous peonies from my garden where they sprout so effortlessly each year, sublime. Giant pom-Pom blooms. I used permanent rose and permanent crimson. Never underestimate the power of gazing at flowers to make you feel better šŗš„°

Ceramic artists and crafts folk donāt need squashing any further! Sign the petition, itās easy! š
We need your help to sign the "Support the Ceramics Industry" petition created by the campaign.
The Government Petitions Committee has now approved the petition for a review of the 'Supercharger' scheme to include ceramics manufacturers. The scheme provides relief to energy intensive businesses in the UK and inclusion in this would help cut soaring industrial energy costs and support ceramics businesses.
Whilst Denbyās future is still uncertain, we truly believe that if every person who has supported so far could sign, then this could make a huge difference for the UK ceramics industry as a whole.
Ways that you can help:
- Sign the petition here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/764785 (we need 10,000 signatures for the government to respond)
- Tag your friends in the comments and spread the word about the petition.
Thank you for all of your support for our Ceramics Industry as well as for Denby.

Well itās been a lovely week with perfect weather for sketching and with so many quirky corners, quaint buildings more fancy ironwork than you can imagine weāve had no shortage of subjects to draw.
Our paints also came out with watercolors proving a very popular choice, loose brushstrokes and lots of shades of spring green, pure joy!
I need to decide what time of year would be best for next yearās trip - if youād like to join us in 2027 do drop me a line to help me plan!

Another fabulous week at Great Hucklow, in the Peak District, thanks to a wonderful group of lovely participants who shared their time, creativity and ideas! Such a very relaxing time with the generosity of those who came and took part, we couldnāt have done it without you all!
Our thanks also go to the super staff at The Nightingale Centre for looking after us so well, with delicious meals and comfortable surroundings, beautiful gardens and spotlessly clean rooms šāØ
I have already booked our dates for next year, so please contact me if you would like to join our next painting holiday š

Yesterday we imagined we were back in the plaster cast room at the Royal academy circa 1900, with nothing but chalk and charcoal and lots of open minded and courageous participants! Even for those who found the prospect of tackling Venus very much out of their comfort zone, as usual the wonderful talent of these participants soon shone out āØ
Some of us tried drawing up-side down, the results were astonishing and also very stylish š¤©
My thanks for to Ashover Art Group for asking me over again, always a joy āŗļø
