Stour Valley Community School is celebrating the achievements of its Year 11 students, with strong individual results and many students making excellent progress from their starting points.

Headteacher, Rachel Kelly, said:
“I am incredibly proud of this year group. GCSE results represent much more than a collection of grades – they reflect hard work, determination, resilience and personal growth. We are particularly pleased to see so many students making strong progress from their starting points, alongside some outstanding individual achievements. Our students have worked incredibly hard and should feel immensely proud of what they have achieved.”

Well over 10% of students achieved mainly grades 7–9, with Nesta Barksfield, Kaelan Bell, Theo Birks, Elissa De Magalhaes, Roxy Down, Edith Dubery, William Harmer, James Kentish-Turbefield, Oscar Painter, Mitchel Rowland, William Ward and Thomas Yeo among those achieving particularly strong results.

Rowan Kimber achieved an outstanding eleven grade 9s and one grade 8.

Rachel Kelly added:
“Success looks different for every student, and we are incredibly proud of all our Year 11s – not only those achieving the highest grades, but those who have overcome challenges, made significant progress and achieved the qualifications they need for their next steps. They have demonstrated our values of being Kind, Brave, Ambitious and Collaborative throughout their time at Stour Valley. We wish every one of them the very best for the future.”

Shaving Dave: Person-Centred Values in Action! 🎈🪒

Class 10.1 recently took on a messy, hilarious, and unforgettable challenge with Mrs Porter to bring Person-Centred Values (PCVs) to life!

Our mission? To give a very special balloon named Dave a shave.
Armed with shaving foam and PPE (which quickly became part of the fun!), students had to work through each core Person-Centred Value to ensure Dave received the highest standard of "care." From maintaining his dignity and privacy during the shave, to respecting his choices, and ensuring his safety (one wrong move and POP!), class 10.1 showed incredible focus and empathy.

It was crazy, loud, incredibly messy, and filled with laughter—but most importantly, it was a brilliant, hands-on way to understand how we apply PCVs in real-world care settings.

Way to go, 10.1! Dave has never looked better.

Year 7 Honours Assembly: congratulations to our award recipients👏

8MSB have been learning about the importance of CPR in Science. They were taught what to do if they find someone unconscious and how to perform CPR safely while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

We believe this is an important life skill for all students to learn, as you never know when you may need to use it yourself or guide someone else through the process.

The class had the opportunity to practise their CPR skills on training dummies, which were purchased thanks to the school's fundraising efforts a few years ago. The students engaged enthusiastically with the practical session and gained valuable hands-on experience that could one day help save a life.

Sports Day - 10 July 2026

For the second year running, the trophy was lifted by the students in red as Deben House claimed victory once again. Congratulations to Deben and to all of their worthy competitors for making the day such a success. Kennett secured second place, with Waveney taking third. Despite some outstanding performances throughout the day, Orwell narrowly missed out on a podium finish.

Students competed across a wide range of events, including javelin, shot put, hurdles, relay races and football, demonstrating determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout.

A huge well done to our entire school community for coming together and making the most of the day despite the hot weather. With shaded areas, water stations and regular breaks from the sun in place, students rose to the challenge and delivered some fantastic sporting performances.
