🌿🔬 More learning beyond the classroom - and a very impressive stick 🪾

Our Year 12 Biology students have just enjoyed an inspiring trip to Kew Gardens, where classroom theory came to life through hands-on, practical experience.

In the morning, students took part in a plant sampling workshop, developing key fieldwork skills and deepening their understanding of ecological study methods. They also explored plant classification in action and examined the real-world threats facing endangered species - connecting their studies directly to global environmental challenges. We also need to take a moment to admire the marvellous stick that the students adopted! 🪾

Experiences like this are at the heart of our approach: giving students meaningful, practical opportunities to apply their knowledge, build confidence, and see the impact of science in the real world. 🌍

We place a huge value on continuous learning and sharing best practice across our staff—and our Digital Sharing Fair is a great example of this in action.

Last week, colleagues from across the college came together to explore and share the digital tools, platforms and approaches being used to enhance teaching, learning and student outcomes. From quick demonstrations to informal conversations, the event created space for collaboration, innovation and practical skill-building.

With every department contributing and opportunities to discover new ideas through hands-on exploration, the fair highlighted the strength of our community and our commitment to embedding digital skills across the curriculum. QR codes, iPads and real-time demos made it easy to connect, learn and be inspired.

We’re proud to foster a culture where staff development and digital confidence are priorities - ensuring our students benefit from forward-thinking, engaging and industry-relevant learning experiences.

✨ Celebrating Our Chaplaincy Students’ Incredible Community Work ✨

We’re so proud of our Chaplaincy students, whose creativity and compassion have made a real difference in our local community.

After raising an amazing £225 through a “Guess How Many Sweets” fundraiser and a raffle supported by generous local businesses, the team created 15 hygiene packs for the charity Ace of Clubs.

Each pack was thoughtfully put together in reusable drawstring bags, offering something practical and sustainable for service users to keep and reuse. 💙
The idea for the hygiene packs came directly from two of our students, who also joined us in personally delivering them to Ace of Clubs—an inspiring example of student-led initiative in action.

We were also delighted to be joined by two Travel & Tourism students, who had recently supported the same charity through their own food sale.

👏 A fantastic collaboration and a powerful reminder of what our students can achieve when they come together to support others.

🌍 Supporting our EAL students every step of the way ✨

Did you know we offer ESOL classes for our international students who need extra support with English? 📚 These sessions help build confidence and ensure every student has the skills they need to succeed on their chosen course.

To celebrate their hard work this year, we recently treated our ESOL students to a trip to the iconic London Eye 🎡 - and they absolutely loved it! A fantastic day out and a well-deserved reward for their dedication.

We’re proud to support our diverse student community and help everyone achieve their potential 💙
