When I saw this quote it made me think of a post I saw about confidence. The teacher, Carrie, who wrote the post said people think she has plenty of it, and on the surface she does appear to, as do I. But like Carrie I am not always confident. But I do challenge myself and by doing this I look confident.

When at school I confused my teachers. I was the quiet well behaved student who didn't cause them any trouble and seemed to be learning everything I was being taught. However the only subject I proved this on paper was Maths. I am dyslexic and this was not understood in the 1970s and 1980s. I remember the frustration I felt. I was also frightened that I would be regarded as stupid if people realised how much I was struggling. In year 11 I was asked what I would be doing the following year, once I had left school. It was assumed that I would work full time in the supermarket where I had a Saturday job. When I said I would be staying on at 6th form to do A levels and then intended on going to University, to train as a teacher, I was told I wasn't academic enough.

This made me rather cross and gave me a challenge. How wrong they were! I have a good degree and have gone on to achieved A Masters in Education. Each time challenging myself to do that little bit more.

My Aunt, Frances, always comes to mind. She liked a challenge and was very successful. With her in mind I decided to set up my business, another challenge. Carrie said Confidence often involves taking an action. I think challenge involves actions and this results in people looking confident.

My dyslexia still trips me up. My spelling and processing time always needs to be factored in to everything I do. It doesn't stop me though. So be successful by moving out of your comfort zone and do something that challenges you.
