When a child is struggling or unable to use phonics, use chanting the letter names instead.
Thorpe Dyslexia Centre
Providing specialist tutoring, appraisals, talks & interviews to help with dyslexia/neurodiversity. Hi, I am Helen.
I work in a friendly atmosphere, and as I am dyslexic myself I understand the struggles and frustrations relating to dyslexia experienced by adults and children.
Many dyslexics are creative and good at problem solving. Seek their point of view.
How to help with auditory memory? Keep the message clear, positive and short.
Verbally given information is often overwhelming, easily misunderstand and hard to remember.
Dyslexics struggle with discriminating sounds; hence, language is affected which can hinder: - reading, writing, spelling, communication and comprehension, memory and any activity requiring these skills.
Some dyslexics cannot discriminate sounds, hence, avoids phonics.
What can happen when reading?
The letters are meaningless, because too much thought goes into sounding each letter that memory of the whole passage is often lost.
I am passionate about helping dyslexics which is why I run the Thorpe Dyslexia Centre
My aim is to share my views of dyslexia, being dyslexic makes this a challenge.
Being asked what's on your mind is enough to make the mind go blank.
