Iโ€™ve seen so many posts the last few days spreading misinformation.

GEL POLISH IS ๐—ก๐—ข๐—ง BANNED IN EUROPE...

One single ingredient used in gel polish (TPO) was banned in Europe on 1st September. Itโ€™s expected the UK will follow suit next year.

TPO stands for ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐˜†๐—น๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜‡๐—ผ๐˜†๐—น ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜†๐—น๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ข๐˜…๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ.

Itโ€™s a photoinitiator, which means it helps gels and other UV-cured products harden when exposed to UV or LED light.

Without a photo initiator gel polish wouldnโ€™t cure properly and would stay soft or sticky.

๐Ÿšจ ๐—ช๐—ต๐˜† ๐—œ๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ฃ๐—ข ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—น ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€?๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿ’ก A 2020 study in Germany tested very high ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น doses of TPO on rats.

โš ๏ธ The study found potential links to reproductive toxicity in male rats at those extreme levels. But hereโ€™s the key point:

โœจ ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—น ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป or used in this way.
โœจ The study does not reflect how nail products are actually used in real life.

Regulators often act with caution, which is why TPO is being phased out โ€“ but this does not mean your gels are unsafe when applied properly.

So as long as you go to a reputable trained tech who uses reputable products you can still enjoy your nails with peace of mind.

Iโ€™m sure everyone has seen the scaremongering in the news today in regards to Gel nails.

As a qualified and insured nail technician, and tutor who teaches nail services, registered with the guild of tutors, I take training and safety VERY seriously.

When using good quality products and when you are FULLY trained, there is minimal risk. (I say minimal because there is always a chance for an allergic reaction with ANY product, I mean Iโ€™m allergic to tomatoes after all!)

If anyone has any questions Iโ€™m happy to answer them, safety will always be my priority.

Face to face courses are carried out in my garden studio in Holland on Sea, online courses are carried out via live video link so that we can mimic the classroom environment.

All courses are accredited and insurable by ABT.
