GCSE 2024 results for the English students I worked with this year.

These are exceptional results and I’m absolutely over the moon for these young people.

8s and 9s are outstanding, but other results are equally important. You don’t need the highest grades to succeed in life or to find something you’re passionate about or that you love doing.

One of my main focuses when working with a student is that they don’t need to be exceptional, they just need to work hard and do THEIR best. Sometimes that’s a 4/5, sometimes that’s a 9. Sometimes it’s just trying, plus you can always retake!

Focus on the happiness.
Focus on the mind.
Focus on the achievable goals.

It will come together ❤️🥰

Happy Easter 🐣 🥚

I hope everyone is having a welcomed break and rest. Students in years 11 and 13 will be working hard over the break to revise for the upcoming exams.

Here are some tips:

1. Plan a revision timetable using a diary, weekly planner or make a table on Word. Think about how you can balance your time before you start, rather than wasting a day procrastinating.

2. Plan which unit or area you will revise during the time slot.

3. Put your phone at the other side of the room or in a drawer but a set a timer for studying and resting.

4. Plan how you will revise: will you make revision notes, timelines, use practice papers or revision guides, make flash cards, flow charts or mind maps? Be mindful of how you revise, what works for you?

DO NOT write every single thing down in your revision materials. Only key facts, dates, definitions, events, themes, techniques, context, characters. Keep it simple and clear to help you remember it.

5. Repetition, memorise it, look away, check if you can remember THEN practice it with a past paper or revision paper exam-style question. Use the knowledge to analyse and answer the question.

First week back… 🍂

Wishing everyone a successful academic year. 💫

Year 11s will be feeling the mounting pressure. Take a breath. Get prepared. Focus on what is possible.

How to get prepared:

1. Make sure you know what texts/modules are being covered: write ✍🏻 your own list.

2. Invest in revision guides to break-up the material. Use post-it’s to section off areas to cover with dates. Don’t leave it all to the end.

3. Create a checklist: cover once, revise, check knowledge. How confident are you with each area?

4. Use a diary! Write down deadlines and include small deadlines to keep on top of recapping a small area of each subject weekly. Your tutor should help with this, if not, use short revision questions in textbooks to check your knowledge.

Remember, if you have knowledge and understanding, you can analyse!

5. Ask for help if you’re unsure or need support.

Don’t feel silly asking questions or asking for help! You are learning, and that means times of being unsure.

Congratulations to all the GCSE students who have received their results.

If you haven’t passed/achieved what you wanted please don’t panic. Find out what support is offered at colleges/sixth forms, particularly for retaking English and maths.

GCSEs are stepping stones, they are important but they won’t make or break your life.

Sometimes the challenges we face may cause us to slow our pace or alter our course, but it will come together 🩵

Just breathe. You can work this out.

So proud of all my students 💛

Making mistakes is ok!

You do not need to be perfect all the time.

We learn by making mistakes in a supportive and safe environment.

Some days you just need time to be, to reflect, to absorb, to breathe.

Remember, doing a little or nothing at all, when you need to, is doing everything.
