Little Nippers Childcare

Little Nippers is a childminding service based in Thorpe le Soken. We are a friendly and outdoor loving family.

Hello, I’m Hannah and I live in Thorpe-le-Soken with my husband Ross and two children Oliver, 5 and Rose, 2. During the past few years, I have been at home full time with my children, focusing on their early years development. My background is in Early Years Teaching and before having my son Oliver I was an outstanding Early Years practitioner at an Infant School in Colchester. I am passionate abo

Operating as usual

🐣 With Easter fast approaching, it’s that time of year again when I’m taking donations of mini eggs, mini smartie eggs, cadburys mini eggs, any chocolate that is small enough to block a child’s airway…

I cannot stress enough that this is purely to keep the children safe!

Just happy to do my bit 😁

(But on a serious note, if you have to buy mini eggs please cut them in half. The sugar coating on them means that if they get stuck in a child’s throat they do not dissolve or break down. They are a massive choking risk and children have died from choking on mini eggs.
Buy chocolate buttons instead.
Don’t risk it 🧡💛) 🍫 🍫🍫

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this post to share with you all that as of 31st March Little Nippers will close its front door for the final time. We have had an absolute blast for the last 20 months and have loved watching all the children grow and learn so much, we've shared lots of laughter, cuddles, tears and many many germs 🦠😂😅!
Thank you all for your wonderful support throughout our journey and of course to our current families for their understanding during this time.
So for now, we look forward to our final 6 weeks with our littles, we will still have lots of fun, adventures and exciting times ahead ❤️

Ross Crabb and I would like to wish our families and all our followers a very merry Christmas! It’s been an amazing term, taking the plunge to work together and putting everything on the line to make childminding work. We’ve loved getting to meet and know so many little people and their families and become part of their lives! We can’t wait too see what they all achieve in 2023!!
For now Ross and I are going to take some much needed rest and enjoy some special family time with our own two little people , who have also been amazing this term - starting school and learning to share their home and their parents with other littles! 🥰 we also may enjoy a little wine! 😂
Merry Christmas and wishing you all a happy and healthy new year! 2023 here we come!!

👀👀👀 some really useful information from Early Years Alliance.

With Strep A infections, including scarlet fever, on the rise, we've added two new resources to our free Winter Toolkit:

- A scarlet fever symptoms poster for early years setting to display:

- A guide to Strep A infections for settings to share with parents and carers:

The full toolkit is available for free here:

Wishing another one of our littles the happiest of birthdays today! We hope she had a great day! We look forward to more Anna and Elsa play this week and constant renditions of Jingle Bells and Let it go! Hehe!

🎂 Wishing one of our littles the happiest of birthdays today 🎂
She was the first one to start with me and it’s been amazing watching her grow into the wonderful little lady she is today, her imagination and energy is something I’d love to bottle 🥰
🎉 Happy Birthday from all of us ❤️ 🎉

When you drop your oldest off to the school disco and the littles want to join in too!

🎃 Half Term holiday club 🎃 these littles have been so much fun! 2 busy days of walks, puddle splashing, games, problem solving , play dough making and new friendships made!
We’ve all had a wonderful time, we are closed now for a well earned break and some time for our own two littles to take over the playroom with hot wheels track and babies 😆 see you all back on Monday 31st 🎃🎃🎃

It’s not just making a mess!
Today the boys have been ; concentrating, working out how things work, persevering, working those little hand muscles, gripping, tipping, pouring , filling, exploring and having fun! They have also been working on those all important language skills as we’ve talked about all the things that we are doing and how things feel and sound ( and even taste 😬🤣)

🌊 🏝 🌳 Trips out 🌳 🏝 🌊
The last few weeks have been so much fun! We have been venturing out and about and having the best times with all our littles!
All of these beautiful places are right on our door step and we are so lucky to be able to go on adventures whenever we like 🥰

This week we are been using more sensory based activities to help inspire our little learners. This one went down particularly well! The children loved scooping, sprinkling and pouring ( and a little bit of throwing 🫣) Thankfully rice is quick and easy to clean up ☺️
We are always looking to try new sensory ideas so if you have any suggestions please let us know so we can give them a try , bonus points for easy clean up 💪🏻

It doesn’t have to be super fancy toys to keep little ones entertained. This shoe box and dried pasta kept this little one endlessly entertained this week. He worked on his coordination skills, fine motor skills and problem solved, all whilst having fun, playing and exploring. Sounds good to me!

Today has been so much fun! The children have had a real love of animals lately so we decided to take them for a trip to the Colchester Zoo. We had so much fun and saw lots of animals, had a ride on the train to lemur island and a play in the lovely parks too! What a way to spend the day 🥰

When you take the children out for a walk to explore a new park and you bump into another one of your children out with their mummy 🥰 standard walk back home having to hold his hand 🥰

Making our mark!
Today the children got to explore using watercolour paints for the first time. We talked about how to wet the paints first by adding water and they then chose their own brushes and enjoyed seeing the marks they could make and exploring the colours. I think they look great and we will continue to explore this medium throughout the week!

⭐️WOW⭐️ what an amazing first week back! It’s been so lovely to see so many happy faces coming through the door. Ross and I have really enjoyed getting to know our new little people and welcome our familiar faces back to play 🥰 it’s been full on and super busy but we’ve both loved it! Now time to get our pickles to bed so that we can crash out ! 😅😴 hope you all have lovely, relaxing weekends!

We’ve had an amazing summer, a mix of running holiday club, catching up with friends and family and two wonderful holidays!
We are now back and looking forward to welcoming back all our wonderful children 🤩we are so looking forward to getting to know our new little ones over the next few weeks 🥰
If you are like us and you said goodbye to your little ones at the school gate this morning, we feel you! It was an emotional moment saying goodbye and trying not to let him see me cry 🥹 but he didn’t look back, and I’m so pleased! He had the best first day and we are so proud ! We hope your little ones also smashed their first days and had a fantastic day!

Today, during our summer club, the children have helped pick a bounty of fruit! Blackberries, tomatoes, golden raspberries and even 2 little blueberries! All were washed and on their snack plates within 5 minutes 🥰 don’t get fresher than that! The golden raspberries were definitely the firm favourite 🍅🍓🫐

And that’s a wrap! Our final day of the school term and my first year of childminding complete ✔️
Who would have thought it would have led to so many big changes…. the most exciting to come, when Ross joins me here and we expand Little Nippers that bit more 🥰
We’ve opened our home up and our hearts to some incredible little people and their families and I cannot wait to build more relationships over the next few months and years.
Our children have built some incredible friendships and memories over the past year and for that alone this job has been worth it, even if our house looks like this pretty much every day ⬇️ 🏡🤯🥰
We said goodbye to one little boy today who starts his journey at big school in September and I know he will smash it and absolutely fly 🥰
Wishing you all a fabulous summer holidays filled with adventure. We are going to have a long weekend off and then see some of you again on Monday for summer club 🤩
Happy Summer Holidays everyone!

When one of your littles brings you in a plaster, in their lunchbox, because you still have an ‘ouchies’ on your knee 🥰

🥵🧊😎How we’ve kept cool today 😎🧊🥵

🧊Today we have kept cool painting ice 🧊 we have explored colour mixing, described how ice feels and observed what happens as it starts to melt. So much learning in one activity 🧊

We recently added to our magnetic tile collection, it was one of the best investments we’ve made. All the children love building and playing with them and are really imaginative with their creations! We’ve had garages, towers, stables, multi-storey carparks and zoo built this week alone! I would highly recommend them on any gift list for little ones!

Just three weeks to go now until the summer holidays are upon us! If you are still looking for childcare we have a few dates still available.
New families welcome for short term summer care, please contact us for more details.
Come and join us for some summer fun!

Ollie had his first sports day today so naturally we all went along to support him. The children enjoyed making banners this morning and held them up whilst cheering him on from the sidelines, especially when he won his running race 🏅 ❤️ Wendy the wagon came in super useful providing seats, shade and a place for activities whilst we waited for races, it also has so much storage for all those ‘essentials’ needed on a trip out 😅 so proud of all the children who took part today. Well done everyone 💪🏻

Today we had a go at making our own sand-dough. It was a lovely textured play dough which kept these two occupied for 45 minutes today 😍 we had dinosaurs and eggs being made by one and the other made an egg, caterpillar and cocoon 😍 and all along they were working those all important hand muscles to help support when the time comes for writing ❤️ Hannah Crabb

Over the weekend we were gifted an incredible bundle of dinosaurs! They have literally invaded our home 🤣 this evening my little helper has helped me to set up play for the children tomorrow 🥰 I can’t wait to see their faces 🥰 a huge thank you to the incredible Andy for his wonderful donation of dinos! They will be well lived here for sure! Hannah CrabbRoss Crabb
