Huge congratulations to all who took their GCSEs and are getting results today.
A little snapshot of happiness from my lovely tutees who have messaged, called (squealing down line in one instance), or emailed…so thrilled to hear it went so well!
Across the board success with most achieving 2 levels progress and a couple 3 levels progress! What a lovely morning 🎉
So impressed with their hard work, dedication, and commitment - it all paid off in the end!

Utterly fabulous set of A Level results from a brilliant group of tutees!

All made between 1-5 levels progress from their mock exams, and all secured their first choice university or apprenticeship…so completely made up for them. One tutee even moved up from a U to a C!! Absolutely ecstatic!!

All achieved grades C-A*.

Lots of excited messages this morning, and very happy parents too! Just a little selection below.

A few day-time tuition slots left if your A Level teen needs a hand next year during their free/study periods. Just email: [email protected]

..and just like that 2025/26 tutoring year is over!

Hugely looking forward to a lovely break filled with family, friends, and travel; the knowledge that I'm fully booked for next year will help to make this summer even more relaxing!

Can't wait to see what Year 3 of Focus Tutoring UK will bring...the decision to leave a 20 year teaching career (whilst utterly terrifying at the time) has really paid off in the most incredible ways.

I've met brilliant tutors through The Tutors' Association, work with some amazing families, and am so lucky to speak with wonderful tutees each and every day. There is life beyond the classroom and, for me, it's been incredible!

Hope those of you lucky enough to have a summer break have a wonderful one, and a huge 'thank you' to everyone who has supported/worked with me this year.

Seeking peace of mind when choosing a tutor?

When you're investing in your child's education, qualifications and experience matter.

Look for a tutor with:

✔️ Years of teaching experience
✔️ Strong reviews and recommendations
✔️ An enhanced DBS certificate
✔️ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE
✔️ A degree in the subject they teach
✔️ The ability to think on their feet and adapt to a student's changing needs

These aren't just credentials to list on a profile, they provide reassurance that your child is in safe, experienced hands with someone who can respond effectively when challenges arise.

With over 20 years' teaching experience, a BA in English, a PGCE, an MSc in Education, Chartered Teacher of English status, and an enhanced DBS certificate, one of the greatest strengths I bring to tuition is the ability to assess, problem-solve and adapt quickly.

Today was a perfect example.

I'd carefully planned a Year 12 session on 'A Doll's House', following my tutee's request from the previous lesson. They logged on and immediately explained that they'd just been told about an unexpected assessment on 'Hamlet'.

Within minutes, the session was completely reshaped. We shifted our focus to critical interpretations, key quotations, and exam techniques for 'Hamlet'. By the end of the hour my student felt significantly calmer, more confident, and well prepared for their assessment.

That flexibility doesn't come from a lesson plan, it comes from decades of classroom experience, current examiner knowledge, and years of supporting students with a wide range of academic needs.

When choosing a tutor, don't just ask what their qualifications are. Ask whether they have the experience, subject knowledge, and adaptability to provide the right support when your child needs it most.

My evening tuition slots for the next academic year are already fully booked, but I currently have availability for daytime tuition.

As the skies continue to stay bright blue and burning hot, I’m pleased the local schools have taken the decision to either close, or reduce their hours.

As a result, I’ve moved my tuition sessions to much earlier in the day to support tutees with battling the heat.

Hope everyone stays cool and hydrated!

What a year!

24 weekly 1-1 tutees.
26 texts.
4 exam boards.
9 exams.
Million+ laughs and celebrations.

Fantastic group of tutees, thoroughly enjoyed every hour with each of them, sad saying ‘goodbye’ to each and every one, but so happy knowing they’re more confident and enjoying English again!

Starting with new group this week (to settle in before summer hols) and then time off for a bit of travelling and exam marking! A couple of spots left for 2026/2027 - let me know if your child needs support with English tuition next year and I will see how I can help: [email protected]

Just a reintroduction for new followers…

Hello everyone! I’m Sarah, an ex-teacher with over 20 years’ worth of classroom experience. I spent the last 12 years of my teaching career in an independent school, with the final 8 years of those as Head of English.

I set up Focus Tutoring UK two years ago out of a desire for a better work/life balance, alongside wanting to continue my passion for educating and inspiring young people in all aspects of English tuition.

English tuition isn’t just about teaching tutees to pass exams, it’s far more than that. It’s about fostering a love of analytical curiosity, building confidence with creativity, and supporting growth of ideas that last far beyond the academic curriculum.

I work with tutees from Year 7 to Year 13, have supported tutees (and former students) to study at Oxbridge, and hold a BA(hons), PGCE, MSc (Education, teaching & learning). I am also a chartered teacher of English via the English association, and a member of The Tutor’s Association; holding an enhanced DBS.

Mostly though, I love talking all things English, making thinking fun, and supporting academic growth through curiosity.

If you want to learn more about my method, or how I can support your child. Do reach out via email to: [email protected] or phone: 07900426666.

Taking bookings for 2026/2027 academic year (already have 12 sessions filled) if your child may need support, do reach out. I’m usually fully booked by the end of September.

Currently on books: 3 A Level tutees, 7 GCSE tutees, 2 KS3 tutees: I have space for 9 more at secondary level.

Just had the loveliest phone call with a new family, opening comment from the mother: ‘we heard from X that you’re a magician, you worked wonders with her son at A Level and we’d love you to do the same for our daughter’.

Proper lovely happy dance moment.

Tutoring referrals are the absolute best!
