✨ Celebrating Chinese New Year & Valentine’s Day ❤️🐉
Over the past few weeks, our children have been busy celebrating Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, exploring different cultures, traditions, and the importance of love and kindness.
As part of the EYFS curriculum, we support children in understanding the world around them and learning about different celebrations, communities and beliefs. Celebrating Chinese New Year helps children develop respect for different cultures and traditions, while encouraging curiosity and conversation about how families may celebrate in different ways.
For Valentine’s Day, we focused on the themes of love, kindness and friendship, supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development. We talked about how we can show kindness to our friends and families, how it feels to be kind, and why caring for others is important.
The children explored a range of exciting activities, including:
🎨 Painting on large sheets of paper using straws to create beautiful patterns
🥢 Exploring coloured rice with chopsticks to develop fine motor skills
🫘 Scooping and pouring coloured chickpeas using nets and scoops
💧 Coloured water play to encourage sensory exploration
📚 Sharing books about Chinese New Year, love and kindness
👐 Creating and moulding with play dough
These activities supported children’s communication and language skills, fine motor development, creativity and understanding of the world all through hands-on, meaningful play.
We are so proud of how the children embraced these celebrations with curiosity, enthusiasm and kindness towards one another. 💛
