This month, the children at Growth Mindset Tutoring have been creating a shared story. They have worked so hard in creating a fabulous story. Have a read and see what you think. The children are aged between 6 and 11. They took their inspiration from a picture found on The Literacy Shed.
Well done to Barney for coming up with the idea!

The Happy Meal

It had been a long and tiring day, the only thing that could have cheered me up would have been a McDonalds Happy Meal. I could taste the scrumptious sensation of one hundred crispy chicken nuggets as I walked towards the… WAIT! Where was it?
I looked left, I looked to the right, I looked down, I looked up… (Barney)

I couldn’t believe my eyes. Floating in the sky were the golden arches of McDonalds. (Oscar)

How? Why? WHAT!
I could still hear the fries frying. I could still hear the milkshakes shaking. I could still hear the children chattering.
How on earth did they get up there! (Martha)
They must have been in there when it floated up. (Olly)
Why was this so weird? It was floating. I’d never seen this before. (Arthur)
Over to the left, there was a massive blue and red spotty trampoline. Everyone must have jumped on it to get into McDonalds. (Corey)
“I’m going to try. I was desperate. I needed to get to McDonalds. I needed a Happy Meal. I mean, isn’t that why they are called Happy Meals! (Molly)
I walked quickly towards the spotty trampoline. It was deserted. (Freddie)
All that I could see was a scruffy teddy bear lying abandoned on the floor – someone must have dropped it there. I felt jittery – my heart pounding like a drum. Should I risk it? Should I avoid the temptation?
After a long hard think, I thought to myself,
“What could possibly go wrong”.
I clambered onto the tall trampoline and started jumping. I began slowly and then got higher and higher.
Suddenly, my life flashed before my eyes… (Freya)
Red, yellow, purple, gold, darted around me. I could hear muffled chimes and sizzling. I had a sensory overload: the smell of freshly cooked crispy fries and perfectly seasoned chicken invaded my taste buds.
I began to drool. (Ava)
As my vision began to clear, I saw the strangest sight – a golden M as tall as a mountain glowing gloriously in the scarlet red sky. In the distance I saw some chicken nuggets. Wait! Why were the chicken nuggets so big? The trees were made of crispy, crunchy fries.
I was so shocked. I had to lie down but as soon as I did, I heard a squelch. I thought the worst. Then I realised I was lying in a big, sticky case of ketchup, (which surprised me as they never give you enough ketchup!).
Suddenly, I looked to my left, the bushes were made of McFlurry. The flowers were cups of different sauces and a waterfall flowed rapidly made of sweet and sour sauce. (Barney)
The sky turned from scarlet red to inky black.
I felt a fear like nothing I had felt before.
A giant hand was heading straight towards me. Its fingers as long and chubby as an elephant’s leg.
I was grabbed and began to ascend into the dark sky.
I saw my friend, Jimmy. He was gigantic; he was a monster!
“WAIT JIMMY! NOOOOO”
It was then that I realised that I had become the toy in a Happy Meal. (Barney)
