When a community comes together to remember someone special, it can achieve incredible things. 💫

From 26–28 August, members of ONE Academy Trust will be walking 70 miles from Old Trafford to Shardlow Primary School in memory of their much-loved colleague, Julia Gillard. 💚

The challenge is raising money for Maggie's. If you haven't come across their work before, Maggie's provides free practical, emotional and psychological support to people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends.

We're pleased to support this fantastic fundraising effort and help raise awareness of the challenge.

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that wellbeing in schools is often shaped by the small things people experience every day.

Feeling listened to.

Feeling safe.

Having consistency.

Knowing support is available when it’s needed.

In schools, mental health impacts many areas of daily life - including attendance, safeguarding, SEND support, staff wellbeing and the wider school environment.

And while awareness weeks are important, creating positive cultures in schools is something that happens through everyday practice - through relationships, communication, structure and support across the whole school community. Schools continue to do an enormous amount to support both pupils and staff, often behind the scenes and under significant demands.

At SchoolPro, we believe looking after our own team is just as important. Creating a supportive environment and making space for wellbeing, balance and communication is something we value strongly as a company - because strong teams are built when people feel supported.

This week is an opportunity to recognise the importance of continuing to build environments where people feel supported, included and able to thrive.

SATs week is about far more than assessments.

Behind the scenes, schools are balancing an enormous amount all at once - supporting pupils through exams while also managing attendance, safeguarding responsibilities, SEND provision, staffing pressures, parent communication and the day-to-day running of the school.

For many staff, it’s one of the busiest and most demanding periods of the term.

What often goes unseen is the level of preparation, teamwork and consistency it takes to keep everything moving smoothly while ensuring pupils feel supported and confident throughout the week.

🔐 World Password Day last week highlighted something schools can’t afford to overlook - cybersecurity is now and always will be a core part of both data protection and safeguarding.

In schools and trusts, systems are deeply connected - from pupil records and safeguarding information to finance, staffing and communication platforms.
That means cyber security and data protection aren’t just IT responsibilities. They rely on strong systems, clear processes, and staff awareness across the whole organisation.

Yet many risks still come from simple issues:
❌ weak passwords
❌ password sharing
❌ reused logins
❌ lack of multi-factor authentication

A single compromised account can disrupt learning, expose sensitive information, and create safeguarding concerns.

So even after awareness days pass, the questions remain:
✅ How secure are your access systems really?
✅ Is MFA fully embedded across your trust?
✅ Do staff understand phishing risks in day-to-day practice?
✅ Is cyber awareness part of your wider safeguarding and data protection culture?

Cybersecurity isn’t a one-day conversation - it’s an ongoing part of protecting people, systems and data in schools.

🛡️ Safeguarding should always be front of mind - even during the busiest points in the school term.

A short break or long weekend can be a useful moment to reset:

✅ Re-establish routines and expectations

✅ Notice any changes in behaviour or wellbeing

✅ Ensure staff feel confident in raising concerns

It’s often these moments that provide the clearest opportunity to spot when something isn’t quite right.

For safeguarding leads, that responsibility can be significant - balancing day-to-day demands with the need to remain vigilant and responsive.

Safeguarding isn’t just policy - it’s the consistency of day-to-day practice.

A simple check-in now can make a real difference later.
