INTERNATIONAL SPACE WEEK - LOWERS 1

This week in lowers one we have celebrated international space week. We have had so much fun learning and creating. We have;

🌍 Learned about stars, galaxies, planets & star constellations.
🌍 Made galaxy pictures and added our stars; we used lots of vocabulary we learned such as Billions, trillions, irregular shapes, spirals
🌍 We have had a mini small world set up with our handmade rocket ship, astronaut figures and a giant floor puzzle
🌍 Read a book called 101 space things.
🌍 We have looked at our own zodiac/star signs, our birthday & interests to think about numbers and positive speaking about our self as part of ‘Sense of self’ development. Beth has made a booklet with these in so we can use them for group times and in play as part of our focus for this term.

Caterpillars (0-2 years)🐛

This morning the children in Caterpillars have enjoyed exploring outdoors in the mud kitchen, making some delicious fruit tea! 🍓🍊☕️

We have been practising using our fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to carefully pour the teapots and jugs, and to grasp the spoons to mix our wonderful creations! 🥄

We enjoyed using our imaginations as we explored the different resources, making and sharing our own cups of tea. We also developed our communication and language skills as we interacted with our friends, made sounds, and used gestures and as we begin to share our ideas through play. 💕

This week at Buckshaw Nursery we have been raising money for MacMillan. Our children have been working really hard to make some delicious bakes to sell on our bake sale. Also, during the week we have been having lots of tea parties that the children have enjoyed getting involved in. Of course the pink ladies couldn’t resist having a little bake off of our own, so congratulations on Emily for becoming the Star Baker. A massive thank you to everyone for your kind donations 💚👩🏻‍🍳🫖

Butterflies 🦋 (3 months to 2 years)
Ahoy, me hearties! Today in Butterflies we have been embracing our inner pirates to celebrate nations Talk Like A Pirate Day on the 19th of September. So we have been very busy sailing the seven seas, walking the plank, dancing to lots of sea shanties, finding the golden treasure hidden in the sand and we even managed to make friends with a shark. What a busy day, I think we are all definitely ready to drop the anchor and hit the hammock for the night 🏴‍☠️⚓️🏝️

This morning in Uppers 2 (3-4years) we have been on a walk around Buckshaw Village collecting lots of leaves and sticks to bring back to nursery to explore and create with. This week the children have noticed the change in weather and season with children commenting “the leaves are turning brown now not green”. 🍁🍂 We collected lots of leaves in our bags, said hello to the ducks and saw lots of bugs in our search.

In Upper Buckshaw 1 (3-4 years), we have recently been on a trip to ‘The Play Patch’ which is a nature led outdoor learning environment in Chorley. The Pre-School children absolutely loved exploring this space and investigating all the different outdoor areas such as sand, water, nature painting and mud play 🌳🎨💦

Butterflies 🦋 (3 months to 2 years)
This morning in butterflies we have been exploring the sights, sounds, and textures of farm life. Butterflies loved getting stuck into our farm tuff tray by exploring the range of farm animals, enjoyed feeding the animals, singing old McDonald, making crunching sounds using the animals feet on the cereal and they were introduced to different aromas using herbs such as basil & oregano. We loved shouting out all the different animal sounds, and I think it’s safe to say that “moo” was definitely the favourite! 🌾🐄👨🏻‍🌾

Today in Lowers (Aged 2-3) We followed the children’s interest in space and planets 🪐
We made our own planets out of paper mache and extended this by choosing our own planets to draw, building rocket ships 🚀 and reading a lovely story at group time about going to the moon 🌙

We are so proud we have displayed our work in the room 🤍
