Uppers 2 (3-4yrs) are very excited to welcome five new wiggly friends into our room. We now have caterpillars 🐛 We have been observing the caterpillars and are amazed at how fast they are growing. We have been learning about the life cycle of caterpillars through reading the story The Hungry Caterpillar and have been making predictions about what they will look like as butterflies 🦋

Butterflies & Caterpillars 🦋🐛(3 months to 2 years)
Today in Butterflies and Caterpillars, we had a very special visitor. Terry the tortoise. One of our pink ladies very kindly brought in their tortoise and the babies were fascinated watching him crawl around and some of us were even brave enough to gently stroke his shell. Then, the babies gave Terry some of his special lettuce and used toothbrushes to make sure his shell was sparkling clean. All the babies really enjoyed singing and doing the actions to the nursery rhyme ‘Tiny Tim’. We loved having Terry come to visit and hope that Terry returns soon 🐢🧼🥬

As part of the National Year of Reading we had a very special visit from Lancashire Library Book Bus. Our aim is to provide an opportunity to inspire a lifelong love of books in our youngest learners. Bringing a wide variety of exciting, age-appropriate stories directly to nursery helps children develop early literacy skills, expand their vocabulary, and spark their imagination through shared reading experiences. The Book Bus creates a sense of excitement around reading, making books accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all children regardless of their background.
By introducing children to the joy of reading from an early age, the Library Bus plays an important role in supporting the National Year of Reading's aim of creating a nation of enthusiastic, lifelong readers.

In Lowers 1 (age 2-3) we have enjoyed reading the “Little Cloud” story which teaches us about clouds and the weather! We have enjoyed learning all about the different types of weather and what we need to wear for each! Today we have used some mirrored card to have a look at the clouds and the sky and to paint it ourselves! ⛅️🌈

Today in Caterpillars (3 months - 2 years) we have had a wonderful day full of water play, sensory exploration, and outdoor fun! ☀️💦
The children loved cooling off in the pool, splashing and enjoying the sunshine with their friends. We also explored in the water trays, where the children got creative making “potions” by mixing and pouring the colourful water, developing their curiosity and imagination through sensory play. We also loved fishing for orange slices in the water tray using our hands to grab and explore, helping to build hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills while having lots of fun!

Butterflies (3 months - 2 years)
Today in Butterflies we have worked with our nursery oral hygienist to plan and carry out an age appropriate activity all about teeth. We used babies, toothbrushes, teeth sets and shaving foam to create this messy, interactive activity. The babies loved practising their brushing skills as we sang our
“This is the way we brush our teeth” song. As you can see from our before and after pictures we had lots of fun and got very messy. We are hoping this activity will help promote the babies with brushing their teeth at home! 😁⭐️🦷

Today in Lowers 1 (age 2-3), we have been celebrating bee day! We have learned all about how bees help our planet and how they make honey - we even tried some honey ourselves! 🍯 We’ve been exploring filling and emptying in a bee tuff tray and even created our own bees and honeycomb with the paint and pens! Finally we went on a bee hunt to the vegetable garden! We didn’t see any bees this time but saw lots of other insects - our favourite was the spider! 🕷️🐝 🐞

Butterflies (3 months - 2 years)
Butterflies children have been leaning about what makes us unique. So, we encourage the children to point towards their own eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Then, the children were able to create their own unique person themselves by using a wide range of coloured paint sticks, crayons and felt tips. As today is World IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease)day, our new friend had a colostomy bag to show the children that everyone has something that makes unique and special. The children enjoyed giving their new friend high fives and of course we had to decorate our own hands, noses and cheeks with paint as well 🎨👀🖊️
