How do you manufacture complex metal components while reducing waste and machining time?
Using Meltio's wire-laser metal deposition technology, GARY Mécanique de Précision produced a 350 mm open impeller by depositing 316L stainless steel blades directly onto a machined hub.
The hybrid manufacturing process places material only where it's needed, reducing material waste, minimising finish machining, and providing greater design freedom for complex geometries.
From advanced manufacturing and engineering to repair and component optimisation, this case study demonstrates how Meltio is helping manufacturers rethink what's possible with metal 3D printing.

Would you step out the door wearing a pair of 3D-printed shoes?
Thatâs the question FORMISM, the creative studio under SCRY, set out to explore through an open experiment in wearable design and FFF 3D printing.
They released a collection of open-source footwear models and invited the global community to download, print, test, and refine them using flexible materials. The result? Thousands of prints, real-world wear testing, and a growing ecosystem of users improving the designs together.
Whatâs exciting is how accessible this has become. With advanced desktop 3D printing systems like Bambu Lab 3D, creators can now produce complex, functional designs with speed, reliability, and consistency that wasnât possible before.
Design. Download. Print. Wear.

IALC has transformed its approach to architectural metalwork by adopting in-house additive manufacturing using Meltio technology.
Instead of relying on traditional machining methods that waste material and take longer to produce, they now create complex metal cladding and large-scale structures using wire laser metal deposition.
This allows them to produce shapes that were previously too complex or expensive to manufacture, while improving efficiency and design flexibility.
From architectural cladding to 6-metre installations, the results show strong durability and real design freedom in metal fabrication.
A great example of how modern manufacturing is evolving and whatâs now possible in engineering and design.

When a rear cover on a Magirus Iveco aerial ladder platform was damaged during an operation in the Czech Republic, there was no original replacement part available - and no time to wait. đ
Using the Handsonmetrology ATOS Q, ABR 3D print scanned the damaged vehicle on-site, rebuilt the geometry in ZEISS INSPECT, produced a replacement part in ASA thermoplastic, and installed it in under two weeks.
A great example of how 3D scanning and additive manufacturing can help reduce downtime when traditional supply chains fall short.
