Although the last couple weeks I've been a bit quiet on here, I've not been sat on my derier.
Being part of the team that is Underwater Malta, led by Timmy Gambin, of Heritage Malta and Heritage Malta Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit (UCHU), to explore, record and share detailed documentation and imagery of the wreck sites around Malta, it's just been an incredible honour to be part of these projects.

Amongst other wrecks that can be viewed on the Underwater Malta’s 3D virtual museum site...

..which will all be made available to the public to dive (as some are already), the wreck of HMS Urge featured below, which now lays at 118m since exactly 80 years ago, mostly intact submarine.
We placed a memorial plaque on the conning tower in remembrance of the loss of the submarine and its 32-crew members and 12 passengers on 27th April 1942… may god bless their souls and their families.

"About"...update

SMITHS ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP - SAS

As a personal friend of Will Smith and Graham W Smith and knowing their passion for diving, shallow or deep, reefs, wrecks, pot holes and caves/mines, I decided to forge something meaningful in their honour.
The Scholarship, is in memory of two of our friends both called Smith and we all miss them very much.
Many people enjoy diving, but not as many can say they share the same passion, enthusiasm, dedication and energy these two lovely guys brought into diving, not just for themselves but also the people around them.

I will dedicate my time to teach the two successful applicants over a foreseeable future and provide them with as much experience as they want to learn about diving, wherever it takes them. Giving something back, in the spirit and enthusiasm of those we miss.

This scholarship is not in pursuit of monitory gain or reward, but simply to remind us that we are what we can become and where you come from is not as important as where you are going.
This scholarship will continue to run for many years, bi-annually looking for new scholars, which may be the term time unless they wish to stay on and further their career.

An outline to some of the courses the scholars will have available:
Open circuit scuba from recreational to technical and cave
Rebreather from recreational to technical and cave
Or all of the above professionally (instructor rating)
Included would be any specialities preferred
Shark conservation activities/ expeditions
Powerboat handling and more ocean/maritime related courses to come in the pipeline.

Complete set of new kit courtesy of my good sponsors, will be supplied and given to them to keep. *

* The scholars must remain in the academy proactively and complete a minimum duration of 2 years scholarship.
