Fantastic news for one of our Lancashire Yamaha Youth Ambassadors and member of Lancashire Youth Brass Band- the very talented, and all round nice guy - Joseph!

Freckleton Band are thrilled to welcome the exceptionally talented Joseph Glew as their new Principal Cornet! At just 16, Joe is already making waves in the brass band world, and the band are excited for him to bring his energy and experience to the team.

Joe’s musical journey began at the tender age of 7 with the Red Admiral Music Academy, and he has since blossomed under the guidance of Daniel Brooks and more recently the teachings of Andrew Lofthouse.

His accolades include leading Red Admiral to a National Finals spot and clinching the "Most Outstanding Player" award. Joe has also shone brightly with the Lancashire Youth Brass Band, Elland Youth Silver Band, and graced prestigious venues with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Recently Joe has gained valuable experience with the famous Leyland Band that has put him in good stead to become our Principal Cornet!

As Joe prepares to study Music Performance and Music Production A Levels at Cardinal Newman College, the band are excited to support his continued growth and look forward to many memorable performances together.

The band have been looking for a long-term Principal Cornet for nearly four years and would like to thank the many guests and friends of the band who have stepped in to the hot seat for concerts as well as contests!

Musical Director, John Atkinson, says “I am thrilled to welcome Joe to the band - for a player so young, he has a maturity to his playing beyond his years and has so much potential!

I have been aware of his playing for quite some time now and I have always been impressed by his warm sound and lyrical phrasing. Couple that with his technical prowess and a wide range, he is already a great cornet player and a huge asset to the band.

I am looking forward to working more closely with Joe and seeing him flourish into a star of the future!”

It is an exciting time at Freckleton Band, with the fourth place result at the North West Regional Championships securing their position in the top section and an exciting roster of concerts and contests planned for the remainder of 2026. Joe, along with all the band’s soloists, will be showcased at the band’s upcoming concert at Lytham Methodist Church on Saturday 6th June.
