The life cycle of our caterpillars.
Recently we got some amazing caterpillars for our pre-school room, the point of this is to support pre-school in understanding the life cycle, how they grow and eventually spread their wings.
For the last couple of days we have been looking at them getting bigger every morning and we even came up with some names to call them, we have, Bob, Bella, Flower, Lola and Teddy.
Learning about the butterfly life cycle helps them understand the natural world around them. It provides them with a foundational knowledge of biological processes and the concept of change over time. By observing the life cycle of butterflies, preschoolers can make personal connections to the natural world and develop a love for nature. This learning experience is not only educational but also fosters curiosity and observation skills, making it a valuable part of their early education.
So today we decided to set up our very own tray all about the life cycle of a butterfly and create our own caterpillars in a chrysalis. We read the story “one little butterfly” which explains how caterpillars grow into butterfly’s. The children really engaged in this story asking lots of questions and explaining it to each other. After this we then moved into our investigation in the tray where we used our fine motor skills to cut up some string and wrapped it tightly around a stick to look like a chrysalis. By the end of this activity pre-school were keen to tell other's about the life cycle of a butterfly.
To continue this activity Pre-school took their ideas into the garden where they all took turns in the hammock to wrap them selves up like a chrysalis and then unwrap themselves saying they are a “beautiful butterfly” and ran around the garden flapping their wings.

Emergency Service's Week.
Celebrating Emergency Services Week in a nursery setting is important for several reasons such as awareness about the vital work of emergency service professionals and their commitment to protecting and saving others. Emergency Services Week also provides an opportunity to educate children on essential life-saving skills and the important work of adults and it prepares children for real-life emergencies, equipping them with knowledge and skills to respond effectively, It builds resilience and a sense of responsibility among children, encouraging them to take care of themselves and others and being safe at all times.
One of our lovely parents came to visit our nursery in uniform and with a police van to celebrate Emergency Services Week with all the children, showing them all the important equipment used such as, jackets, shields and hats and to also let the children enjoy exploring in the Police van. They loved being able to sit up front and "drive" the van with the blue lights flashing. We really appreciate the time you gave up for us at nursery.
Thank you to all our Emergency Services workers who work hard everyday caring for us and protecting us.

The babies have been getting ready for Easter with a colourful messy tray! We have been hunting for the eggs and using our counting skills to make sure all the eggs get back into the box safely.
To support inclusion, we celebrate Easter to allow the children to get creative and experience different significant festivals, learning about different religions and what the holidays mean to people.
